5 acts I've seen once prior to September, 1985, and never again, even though they are still alive: The dBs Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels Mick Taylor Nightranger The Temptations Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush The Police Judas Priest Billy Squier Molly Hatchet AC/DC Bands that didn't pass the "still alive' test, but never saw again: Queen (unless you count Queen + Adam Lambert, which I don't), Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Van Halen.

my first concert: The Doobie Brothers August 11, 1982. my first concert was rare earth at the arie crown theater, where I went with a youth group around the of summer 1976, but I did manage to see them again, when they, Randy Bachman, and the remnants of Three Dog Night played Petrillo for Taste of Chicago in 1996.

I guess Metallica in 2000 is probably the largest gap, actually.

Probably a bunch of shitty pop punk bands I saw between 2004-2006
Also Ringo Starr
Biggest gap probably the Backstreet Boys at 25 years or so.

1. Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken (who it appears toured together this year!) and presumably others (not bothering to look up if the others are still alive and touring) (last seen 7/27/2003, then-First Union Center, Philadelphia) 2. Weird Al (last seen 8/30/2003, Kirby Center, Wilkes-Barre; missed him at Bonnaroo 2013) 3. Good Charlotte, Jimmy Eat World and The Hives but NOT Franz Ferdinand who also played (last seen 12/2/2004, then-Tweeter Center, Camden NJ) 4. Victor Wooten (last seen 4/18/2005 at the TLA, Philadelphia) 5. Death Cab for Cutie and Franz Ferdinand (last seen 4/8/2006, then-Tweeter Center, Camden NJ)

1. The Who (2012 Quadrophenia tour) 2. Muse (2013, in Phoenix of all places) 3. The Black Keys (2013 - who were both my first and fourth real "of my own volition" concerts) 4. The Flaming Lips (2013 w/ Spiritualized opening! This concert led to my first listen of Ladies and Gentlemen... one of my inner circle all-time faves) 5. YOUTH LAGOON (!) - on the Wondrous Bughouse tour, a record I raved about in my HS newspaper
Edit: That said, my parents did take me along to some heaters back in the day. I saw Bruce Hornsby, Dion, Kenny Rogers (twice!), and even fuckin' Crosby, Stills, Nash when I was in elementary-middle school.

I should have given you the copy of the trapper keeper, instead of Mr. Fort Worth, so you could have gone through it, and identified the tens? hundreds? of shows we were both at years before we met!

I had trouble keeping it down to 5 after doing the research. I ignored the no fests thing because the only act on here I didn't see with intentionality is Deftones, who headlined that show. The slashes are for when it was the same show
The Suicide Machines (2000) Taproot/Deftones (2000) They Might Be Giants/OK Go (2001) Weezer (2001) Moby/Busta Rhymes (2002) 311 (2002) Incubus/Jane's Addiction (2003)
Longest Gap The Roots (21 years minus a week) U2 (16 years, 3 months) PJ Harvey (16 years, 1 month) Unwritten Law (14 years, 11 months) Tenacious D (13 years, 9 months) Outkast (13 years, 2 months) Titus Andronicus (11 years, 4 months) Joanna Newsom (10 years, 10 months) Okkervil River (9 years, 10 months) New Pornographers (9 years, 4 months)
Most of the gap closing was fest sets. Outkast was the record holder after Lolla 2014, then I saw Tenacious D at Riot the next year, PJ Harvey at P4K 2 years later, and U2 touring the Joshua Tree 2 months later held for a couple years, until The Roots headlined P4K a couple years ago. If I see any of the acts on the first list, it'll be the new record

I only went three years (2016-17, 2019), so this is gonna be pretty limited, but:
1. A Tribe Called Quest (2017) 2. Black Midi (2019) 3. Jeff Rosenstock (2017) 4. Sufjan Stevens (2016) 5. Robyn (2019)
HM: Belle & Sebastian (2019), getting into a minor argument with Em during Weyes Blood (2017) because I had ditched her to jump into the pit for Jeff Rosenstock (2017) and emerged so sweaty that I needed to buy a tee from the Polyvinyl stand to wear for the rest of the day
