Have to watch Dogtooth again.. back when I saw it in 2010, I recall I had found it somewhat a paler copy of a Haneke movie. But maybe I'll find it more impactful this time around

Have to watch Dogtooth again.. back when I saw it in 2010, I recall I had found it somewhat a paler copy of a Haneke movie. But maybe I'll find it more impactful this time around LOL. As this board's biggest Haneke stan: just, LOL.
EDIT: Allow me to be a little less flippant. Dogtooth, which is a great film, feels *nothing* like any of Haneke's output to me. The themes it's exploring are not any of Haneke's pet themes, save *maybe* for questions of authority? My memory of Dogtooth is foggier than my memories of Haneke's work, but as I recall the characters don't seem to exhibit shame, which feels like a direct antithesis to many of Haneke's characters' motivations. The visual language does not echo Haneke's work with Christian Berger, in my opinion. And, most clearly to me, Dogtooth is operating in a space of magical realism (or at least altered reality) which Haneke almost *never* touches.

Although I don't think that's a crazy observation. I probably won't be "caught up" with 2019 until March of next year and there only "should" be one 2019 film in my top 10 anyhow

Nowhere near as good as Leviathan in my humble view (admittedly of someone who ranks Leviathan as her #2 movie of the decade...) but worth seeing nonetheless. Also, his earlier works (The Return and The Banishment)

Speaking of Leviathan... the underwater horror film from 1989 is fantastically awful. Classic. It had friggin robocop in it.
I'd put it in any decades top 10, its that good.

Well Dr Google tells me the The Guardian ( www.theguardian.com/film/2010/apr/22/dogtooth-review), AV Club *( film.avclub.com/dogtooth-1798165315) and Greece's most famous cinema critic in particular, but also Timeout, the Royal Cinema, Little White Lies, The Ringer, Spring Bank Magazine, nd several others all reference Haneke, so I guess I'm not the only one being (mis)guided...

Went through the Indiewire list to see the movies I missed - it's a lot! I've only seen 15 of the top 30 and somehow still haven't seen Moonlight. I don't think I'm qualified to make a list.
