This was a huge surprise to wake up to this morning. It’s sort of an odd lineup, but I sort of like it.
This kind of looks like the Bonnaroo of the late ‘00s being resurrected but that the promoters couldn’t fully commit and still wanted enough acts to make it look like a trashy late ‘10s fest.
Thursday once again has some interesting, upcoming acts (Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, All Them Witches) and I love that it looks like it’s billed to have some sort of headliner.
Very surprised they invested so much in Phish after alienating their jam fans. The biggest issue with this lineup could be that they’re trying to win back fans they pushed away years ago.
Also surprised to see them bringing back metal. Would not have expected it (sad there’s no punk though).
Still seems like fewer bands per day than in their heyday?
Lots of stuff that I would love to see on a lineup: Avetts, Kacey, the National, Barnett, Grand Ole Opry, Brockhampton, Jim James, Hippo Campus, Rolling Blackouts, Trampled by Turtles, Brandi Carlile, Beach House, Ibeyi, Girl Talk, etc. Plus, lots of stuff I think I’d enjoy to catch like Cardi B, Childish, Solange, etc.
Speaking of which... Girl Talk is still performing?

Overall I think I would prefer a lighter sunday to relax a little bit more, especially with an impending long drive afterwards.

I wish they would’ve went all the way with this and booked Dead & Company on Saturday.

Weird that Hangout and Firefly are the only American fests to have Vampire Weekend so far.

Not a big fan of the headliners, but this is a really fun lineup. Surprised to see The Avetts at #4, didn't they headline just a few years ago?

They booked JRAD, a better band than Dead and Co Look, I'm really only going off of livestreams here since I haven't seen either band but in my mind the only real problem with Dead and Co is that they play a liiiiittle bit slower than some of the recordings which, if that's a problem you should probably avoid a lot of those early 80s dead shows. I would never prefer a cover band over most of the original members of the band.

Can't say that I really make the time to read the Phish rumors these days - is there a Watkins Glen fest for them in the works this year? Or do they not announce that until Roo squeeze some tickets out of this. Would be curious to see the economics of all of this - its almost like a co-opted Phish fest, which is always a box office winner.

Weird that Hangout and Firefly are the only American fests to have Vampire Weekend so far. Unfortunately, with the exception of the National, Mac DeMarco, and Beach House, they seemed to have abandoned the indie and indie pop scenes. No Vampire, Bon Iver, Arctic Monkeys, Grizzly Bear, Sigur Ros, etc. I think that’s why I’m not currently changing my plans to get to the fest this year. Instead, they wasted slots on alt pop like Walk the Moon, K Flay, Catfish, Bishop Briggs, and AJR... which I could see at any alt radio station music fest.

Not this year, but they are rumored to play one of the Woodstock fests and the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Seems like they might just be getting some easy money after the cancellation of Curveball.

I think the only thing that would ever make me camp again at this festival would be a line up as good as 13/14. Maybe next year

If you ignore Phish it's kind of a fun lineup.

-the national seem so underbilled from where they were in 2013, especially after just headlining lolla. maybe they'll do a LN which set instead?
-lumineers are really that big??

Then this makes perfect sense. Roo subsidizes the Phish fest for 2019 and they get that bump, although I don't know what they do for 2020 unless they just give Kanye 3 nights and whatever stages he wants and tell him to curate something wild.
