20. Hell FestThis isn't very good but the concept rules so hard and most of the set design is great so maybe it is good. They should remake this movie but make it rule all the way thru instead of being kinda boring with a bunch of cool shit.

October 7th Masque of the Red Death Black Sunday The Pit and the Pendulum Witchfinder General
October 8th The Haunting Peeping Tom The Devils Ganja and Hess
October 9th Us
October 10th High Tension The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

October 15th The Dead Don't Die

October 17th The Changeling Parasite Blood Feast
October 18th The Host Blood and Black Lace
October 19th Young Frankenstein Alien The Conjuring The Fog Society Manos: The Hands of Fate
October 20th The Ritual From Beyond Night of Something Strange The Exorcist III Demons
From Beyond is phenomenal. i can't believe it didn't get more traction at the time and isn't retroactively adored like some other stuff of that era. visually incredibly and the mixture of lovecraft monsters and sexual trauma is legit disturbing.
bf's first time seeing The Host, The Fog, From Beyond, and Exorcist III and he was head over heels for all of them. so that was fun.
my first re-viewing of The Conjuring since it first came out. i wasn't a fan at the time and i still think it's insanely overrated, but i did enjoy it more this time. lower expectations might've helped.

19. Last House on the Leftfuck it's kinda wild to read initial reviews of this movie (ebert's love of it vs roeper's hatred of it especially) and then compare those to modern hindsight reviews of it. i remember being so fucking disturbed by it the first time i saw it...i was probably 16 or 17? i watch it with the commentary now just to take away some of the edge cause Wes Craven and the producer basically just joke about how much money they didnt have while they made it lol

i mean i wouldnt necessarily "count" young frankenstein just because it was on at kumas, but there's also not a right or wrong way to just list out all the scary movies you encounter this month

Highlight of riot fest weekend was exiting the bathroom at like 11:45 Saturday night and seeing you passed the absolute fuck out mere seconds after I had been talking to you. Good times.

Happy Death Day was fun! The nitpicky inconsistencies that only I would really care about bothered me, but they successfully faked me out and I was pleased as punch by that.

24. Little Shop of Horrors (1986; Frank Oz)
I only ever saw the musical in high school, so Meg picked this last night. The one thing I remembered most about seeing this 10 years ago is how much I loved the music, and that held true last night. Debated about counting this but I should end up well over 31 and its got "horrors," PLURAL, in the title, so wth.

I think it was fine/OK. It could have been truly great but I wasn't mad I watched it. All of the found footage stuff was mostly not needed.

21. Happy Death DayThis was a pleasant watch. The fun of the concept takes some pressure off the killing setpieces which was kind of refreshing after watching multiple slashers in quick succession.

I suck shit at watching movies this month but my friend who lives in new haven now suggested we watch something spooky and weird together for old time's sake and he's also seen maybe every movie ever so we landed on this one and it was weird/confusing but kinda fun. I really thought I would track better with it due to my "pass a class on the subject" level knowledge of buddhism but unfortunately that was not the case.

I’m getting the sense that I would’ve really enjoyed Evil Dead ‘13 in the theater but it is not translating @ home at all I saw it with a few friends who invited a few friends and so on. We ended up with a group of like 20 plus people all from school in our year which was like a third of our class. Can confirm it was a rad experience and I have no desire to sit and watch it at home.
