I assume you aren’t all done going to shows in 2019 but it looks like I am so tell the board about the good times you’ve had this year. Who surprised you? Any cool moments? Please share these all here, so everyone can remember some fun shared memories or live vicariously through the joy of others.

Tyler at Gov Ball is still probably the best show I've seen this year. First big show after Igor and the same week it came out, the energy was amazing.
Robyn in Boston was great as well. Vampire Weekend in Montreal was amazing and Hey Ya live was probably my favorite concert moment of the year. Just felt very emotional and out of body idk.
Looking through my IG looks like I only went to 10 shows + GovBall one day and Afropunk one day. Damn.

Mentioned it previously, but being able to see the last 8 songs or so of the Vampire Weekend Red Rocks set from the first row was maybe my musical highlight of the last decade. Just a really cool and memorable experience. http://instagram.com/p/B3bRIf4Jp8U

Seeing Garbage in Rome was great. They sounded good, yes, but more than that, the park where they played was gorgeous. Definitely one of my favorite outdoor summer shows.

I saw some good shows - Priests again (and probably last time), Peter Murphy doing Bauhaus, Mitski and Jay Som, and Failure/Swervedriver were all pretty good. I didn't care for Tool or Lana Del Rey shows, but loved finally see both Spiritualized and Bon Iver for the first times. Both shows were excellent. Also glad to have finally seen Gun Outfit, even though it was a short set.

I realized when thinking about this that I only went to one fest this year, Just Like Heaven fest in LA, so I guess im not going to bother seperating fest sets out. 1. Vampire Weekend @ White Oak Music Hall, Houston, August 2019 Not really saying anything controversial here but VW right now is the best live band they've ever been. This was my fourth time seeing them and by far the best. They are a lot more loose in a good way, more jammy, and play really long sets. Hoping I get to see them again next year because they are so on point right now.
2. My Morning Jacket @ Red Rocks, Denver, Colorado August 2019 They ripped so hard and Red Rocks is such an amazing venue. I completely forgot this and edited it back in my bad. Honestly, this may have been number 1 but I drank a little too much at this show which is definitely my fault.
3. Tyler the Creator @ NRG Arena, Houston, October 2019 Honestly this show was so energetic and fun. Tyler had a ridiculous amount of energy and has become a better performer than ever, the stage set-up was actually way cooler than I expected it to be, and the Igor songs rip live. Also the whole arena was singing every word to every song. Only complaint is that maybe it was a bit short but it honestly kind of felt right anyway. I guess he could have put more of his older stuff in but I also feel like I've kind of outgrown a lot of that (and he has too im pretty sure) so it's probably better for the show he didn't. 4. The National @ White Oak Music Hall, Houston, September 2019 I have a bias here because somewhere in the past two years I became a superfan, but this was a great, long setlist that hit just about everything I wanted. The songs from I Am Easy to Find sounded great. The backup singers were great. Got Berningered at one point. It was great. 5. The Rapture @ Just Like Heaven Fest, Los Angeles, May 2019 I've wanted to see them forever and I couldn't make it to their "last" tour despite really wanting to go. I'll admit that they weren't super tight (I think this was only their second show back) and had a few mistakes, but man, their music lends itself SO well to a live setting and the crowd was great and I just had a grand ol time and really want to see them again at a fest next year. 6. Titus Andronicus @ Satellite Bar, Houston, November 2019 Very tight, solid setlist albeit a bit short. They sounded fantastic and the band sounds probably the best and tightest they have since like 2013. I think the newest record is just ok but the songs they play from it are actually pretty fun live songs and Patricks banter was pretty great. Do recommend.
I went 6 because I originally had 5 but completely forgot about MMJ @ Red Rocks

Venue Shows: 1. Vampire Weekend at The Sylvee, June As everyone (including me) has said, they've got the best thing going live right now. I can't get enough of them and I'm so hyped to see them again next year, hopefully multiple times. I frequently daydream about quitting my job and following them on tour. 2. Joanna Newsom at Thalia Hall, October 9 I've wanted to see her since I was in high school. Her last tour was during my finals week my sophomore year of college (and my grades were not what one would consider good at that time) so I opted not to go and was kicking myself for it for a long time. Jumped at the chance to see her at Thalia and oh boy was it worth the drive to/from chicago on a work night. I knew I was going to enjoy the set but I don't think I entirely predicted feeling as emotionally full as I did that night. One of those moments that I think we all chase after when we're going to all these shows year after year and not one that I'll forget anytime soon. 3. The New Pornographers at The Majestic Madison, September This show was wild, I think I mentioned this in the review thread but I hadn't seen them before this and they did requests, deep cuts, all at a crazy high energy level. The crowd was crazy into it too. They later mentioned on twitter that it's the longest set they've ever played. I didn't have plans that following night and I seriously contemplated driving down to Champaign to catch them again on a whim. I didn't end up doing that which was probably a good call for my sanity or whatever. Anyways they ripped and I've gotten way more into them since then as a result. Had a big moment that night where I realized that I now live in a city where I get to experience these things and then drive 15 minutes home instead of 3 hours which was neat. 4. Kacey Musgraves at the Sylvee, February/Metro, August Two shows from the same artist, each very special to me though they have nearly identical setlists. The show at the Sylvee was my very first at said venue, where I spent a good portion of my year. It was also on the Friday of my first week of work at my brand new job, which was also my first week living in Madison. As much as I don't miss Peoria the transition was hard, the move sucked ass, and this was the first great feeling thing I had experienced in a minute. Cried a bunch. Likewise the metro show was at the tail end of my birthday on an already full fest day. Everyone was very nice to me and kept buying me drinks and it made me feel very special. It was a great show and I cried a lot at the exact same things I cried at in Madison. 5. Paul McCartney at the Kohl Center, June I searched on stubhub all day for a ticket deal, almost got scammed on several different sketchy websites, and had eventually resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't going to this. At the last second, cheap tickets popped up and I had a friend who was able to go with me who had no idea McCartney was in town. Singing along to "Carry That Weight" with a bunch of olds was awesome and I'm so glad I finally got to see him. 6. Baroness w/Zeal and Ardor at the Sylvee, March Wretched and his bf came to visit us this weekend to go to this show with me and one of my friends. It was very much out of my wheelhouse but I loved it. Wretched would occasionally look back at me to check in and see if I was enjoying myself and I was beaming every time. They were our very first visitors up here, even before my parents, and it meant a lot to me that they came up. We didn't even have a dining room table or chairs yet. 7. Lana Del Rey at the Sylvee, November I've been a huge fan since the very beginning but didn't have the means to see her until 2016. Always regretted missing her in small venues and being able to catch her in a 2300 cap venue was great. I also thought she sounded wonderful and really used the space well which is not a review from all the other stops so I'm sorry everyone else's show sucked but this was fantastic. 8. Bon Iver/Feist at Allstate Arena, October Not much to say about this live show that hasn't been said already but I will note the L-ISA sound system they used is fucking insane and sounded amazing. Hope people keep using that. 9. Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band at Thalia Hall, March This was a good and fun time with the boys. Haven't seen Dead and Co but Phil's party band is probably my favorite iteration of the dead right now. Crazy 3.5 hour set and just as good as when I saw them last year. 10. Ariana Grande at United Center, June Nice big arena show. All of the hits and most of my favorites. It's been so much fun watching her become the biggest artist in the world and seeing it culminate in a huge sold out arena with 20,000 some other fans was awesome. Fest Sets: 1. Childish Gambino @ Lolla 2. Janelle Monae @ Lolla 3. Robyn @ Pitchfork 4. Rosalia @ Lolla 5. Patti Smith @ Riot Fest 6. Belle and Sebastian @ Pitchfork 7. Boy Pablo @ Lolla 8. Ariana Grande @ Lolla 9. Bloc Party @ Riot Fest 10. Maggie Rogers @ Lolla It was a good year all

1. Vampire Weekend in Indy (great set, plus my kids actually enjoyed themselves at a show) 2. Yo La Tengo at Space 3. Janelle Monae at Lolla 4. Better Oblivion Community Center at LH 5. Mike Krol at the Bottle 6. Wand at Sleeping Village 7. Fontaines DC at LH 8. Chk Chk Chk at LH 9. Vampire Weekend in Madison 10. Lingua Ignota at the Bottle
Still the biggest surprise of the year for me was that Surf Curse show at Subt. I only briefly listened to their album a couple of times, and went since I could get a spot on jukely. The crowd went absolutely nuts for them though. It was really fun to watch.
Lingua Ignota was also the first time in quite some time where I was actually kind of scared to see a performer live, since I had absolutely no idea what she would do live, especially after hearing her album.
Most painful performer moment: Seeing the singer/bassist from Control Top unintentionally smack herself in the mouth with her mic and chipping a tooth mid-set. Lingua Ignota comes in second place there, when she was basically whipping herself in the middle of hte crowd with a light on a wire
And one of my other highlights was two great lunchtime sets by two of my favorite bands (The National and Wilco) that gave me good excuses to ditch the afternoons at work.

I am going to indulge myself slightly and answer this question differently. I've spent a little time over the past few days reflecting on my year at work and appreciating accomplishments, which is something I am routinely bad at doing.
To get it out of the way, yes, Vampire Weekend was the best act I saw this year. I also managed to sneak in Whitney, Lana Del Rey, Ray LaMontagne, Smashing Pumpkins, blink-182, Interpol, CHVRCHES, and several less-memorable acts with my free time.
But the best / most rewarding performances / most surprisingly great tours I worked with this year are:
1. Elton John - Farewell, Yellow Brick Road Tour - 2/15/19
Without a doubt the most detail-intensive show I've ever worked with. It made me better at my job, prouder of my team and support system, and when the house lights went off - the moment you know you've pulled it off - it's Elton fucking John. He opened with one of my least favorite songs of all-time in such a bombastic way that I couldn't stop singing along.
2. Metallica - WorldWired Tour - 3/6/19
One of the coolest things that happened at work this year was managing the largest crowd to ever occupy Sprint Center. Not that my work influences how many people show up, but it was a proud moment when the final scan count came in at 19,646. The box office attendant looked at me with a smile and said "the most people that have ever been in this building are all here right now."
Metallica is a band I am starting to find sorta goofy, but they probably have the most impressive arena setup possible for their live show. Insanely entertaining. Their private chef left me approx. $300 worth of untouched Whole Foods groceries.
3. Khalid - Free Spirit Tour - 7/21/19
An extremely polite GA line (which is basically an oxymoron) made this day wonderful. The weather was gorgeous and the excitement coming from the kids in line was really infectious. It was an easy day in production which let me focus a little more on the "magic."
I walked out near the barricade to watch the opening of the show, and seeing Khalid appear to 8TEEN captured me right away. Looking back and forth between Khalid (who was having the time of his life) and the kids in the pit (singing every word, totally mesmerized by the show) sticks in my memory.
4. Celine Dion - Courage Tour - 10/28/19
Good ol' Celino Dino was worthy of a few heart attacks along the way, but we got everything taken care of. This was a challenge in many ways, but absolutely one of the most rewarding performances to get to see. My jaw literally dropped when she started singing. I was replaying moments of this day for the whole week after it was over.
5. Travis Scott - Astroworld Tour - 2/17/19
I can't speak to many of the details surrounding how completely massive of an undertaking it was to produce this show, because thankfully I had almost nothing to do with it. My coworker - the same one who managed all of Drake's production rehearsals and the Scorpion Tour debut in 2018 - handled the entire thing.
But, with Astroworld came carnival games, and with carnival games came volunteers. I got to operate one of those tents you can get inside, and a fan blows money all over the place. We had fake money and some of it was marked with a big X. If you got one of those bills, you got a wristband to the pit. I have never had so much fun at work, and now, any time we have show with a pit, I take 10-20 wristbands to the upper level and give them away to people in the very last row.

1. Elton John - Farewell, Yellow Brick Road Tour - 2/15/19 He opened with one of my least favorite songs of all-time in such a bombastic way that I couldn't stop singing along. And hey, there's something to be said for getting that dreck out of the way straight away!

Oh I forgot Pitchfork, which was the only fest I did this year. Those shows are:
Stereolab belle & Sebastian
Snail Mail into Robyn, mostly for the dance parties that a (presumably autistic, admittedly) kid started at both sets. Honestly might've been the best concert moment I've ever seen. Made my heart happy, I tells ya, seeing a bunch of strangers come together and dance with him. I wish I had videos. God bless the people who joined in. I would've but I was with my buddy who was still recovering from a torn ACL/am a curmudgeon.
Ok, now you all can kiss my ass.
