I was the only person not on the basketball team in the basketball PE class so the coach would just let me chill on the bench and we would talk about basketball and the team ran drills and attendance for me was optional.

Similar for me. At my high school PE was required freshman and sophomore year for one semester unless you were on a sports team or marching band.
Junior and senior year I took "basic music" which is where we brought our guitars to school and fucked around for an hour. I basically used it as study hall.

i do love me some victim of love, on the border, those shoes, in the city, teenage jail... i absolutely loved the long run when i was a kid - it was part of group of bands i listened to in my pre-teen growing up years for sure. i didn't like it when they started charging $100 for tickets, though. that started the avalanche of too-rich-for-my-blood shows that started coming through. i was happy i got to see them at acl in 2010 - they came out singing seven bridges road and not a note was missed... fantastic voices. it sure made 12-year old me happy. the joe walsh songs were the best, though.

They're a boring band for sure and Don Henley's existence doesn't help much. I don't know if they're that objectionable there just isn't much to them. They're like the Kevin Costner of bands. The boomers can have them as far as I'm concerned.
As far as 7th grade PE I don't remember much. We did square dancing in grade school (so 6th and earlier at the school I went to). The only things I remember were some kid said "im like kobe I'll rape any girl" during basketball and as far as I remember did NOT get in trouble for it (!!!) and some sheltered girl who just didn't know about the Janet Jackson nipslip because her parents refused to tell her what happened yet had no qualms about sending her to public school where she would surely find out

I've gone with my parents to see Paul McCartney, Meat Loaf, Billy Joel, and Elton John. When The Eagles came to town, I said 'no thanks'.
The only song of theirs I genuinely enjoy is One of These Nights. Take It Easy and Life in the Fast Lane I guess are OK as well.

If you are wondering if a playlist is coming you may also be wondering if there are more than 7 good songs and the answer to both is yes

No Eagles in my PE class, but my elementary school gym teacher was real into "Spirit in the Sky" and teaching us the Remember the Titans chant/dance.

An interesting note from the wikipedia page for "Lyin Eyes"
The political-satire group The Capitol Steps used the song on more than one occasion. They sang about an airline that made heavy people buy two seats ("You Can't Fly With Giant Thighs"), and they parodied Joe Biden with "You Can't Hide This Biden Guy."[9]

the capital steps wrote an eagles parody about what a political liability Joe Biden is in 2012 if only we had listened to DC's worst and most famous musical sketch comedy troupe

I voted "they suck", but like others I must admit they have some good music. They also have some really terrible music, and have done enough shitty things in the musicverse that I would never give them a dime of my money. FWIW I think Glen Frey was just as culpable as Henley before his passing.

chronologically, outlaw man, already gone, james dean, victim of love, all night long, get over it are the only eagles work I can tolerate.
saw henley at 2 farm aids, and then saw the eagles the first tour they re-united and played united center. regarding the UC show, here's a short version of a nanafish story:
Of all my exes, only 1 is truly annoying (but sad at the same time). this ex, who is a lawyer, and who occasionally has to discuss legal things with me, just loved the eagles, but we had long broken up before the eagles reunion. At the time, I had an acquaintance in a big corporation, whose office had a line into expensive local tickets, and the job of one of the employees was to make sure corporate clients got hooked up with sports and entertainment tickets.
At the grocery, I ran into a woman I had gone to college with, also now a lawyer, who I did not know very well, but who I did know had a more or less steady boyfriend. I asked, and she agreed to go to the eagles, and with the corporation's great seat tickets, we went, and she drove, and would have gotten a ticket afterwards for driving down the wrong way of lake street, but the cop apparently didn't want to harass a middle class white woman and her middle class white man date. when my ex learned that I had attended the eagles at the UC with someone other than herself, she was angry at me for months, maybe years, until she needed my legal counsel again.

Solid chance that my only lasting memory of 2003 is listening to Hey Ya in gym at least once a week. It was a good year.
