I've listened to 10 of those. 14 for me. I’m slacking this year.

I’ve listened to 25 of them. Feels like a fairly predictable list but it’s also good so 🤷♀️ Listening to tons of stuff over the next few days so I can produce a somewhat decent list for tabulation for the site I write for.

30 for me, and same sorta reaction as Bosma. Surprised that I’ll share at least 4 of my top 10 with them, and probably 3 of the top 5. But little else from the rest really surprises me. I’ll dip into this list if I want to try some of the pop-leaning R&B / rap that I missed this year. But there’s nothing on here that I couldn’t have found out about / seen on other published lists. Even the cooler lower picks are stuff I’ve seen everywhere. S/O to Mary Lattimore again tho, sneaking in at 50 lmao

yeah, the more surprising aspects are the rare old timers that do well. very cool of destroyer to get a top 20 placement. microphones should have been higher tho.
if anything the top 10 shows that pitchfork's current contributors, as a whole, do not care for even remotely challenging music.

if anything the top 10 shows that pitchfork's current contributors, as a whole, do not care for even remotely challenging music. This is an interesting point - and while I’m a huge fan of most of the top 10, I love them because they’re basically singer-songwriter records dressed up in various styles (Waxa, Phoebe, PG) tho those idiosyncratic styles make them particularly great (Fiona, Moses), no one is really veering too hard out of sonic comfort zones. Even the rap and jazz picks here (tho, again, some great records) aren’t super challenging either.

very cool of destroyer to get a top 20 placement. This was the biggest surprise for me. I feel like a lot of great pre-pandemic albums got lost in the void (Destroyer, Soccer Mommy, etc).

glad to see the best Boldy James album in the top 10 there. Only heard this (Manger on McNichols) for the first time this week, for some reason. And woooow you’re totally right. I’m kinda obsessed right now, on my third spin since last night.

Its my favorite of his, though the one coming out on Friday is pretty good too. Disappointed that P4K shut him out on both lists. I'm sure he'll have something on their "best rap albums" individual list but still...

have never at all liked fiona apple, who is prominent on many of these posted lists. I am by no means a big Fiona Apple fan, but her 2020 release is fantastic, imo. Have you listened to it?
