Beach Bunny has a solid following without the publication adoration that both JW and FJM had, I'm guessing b/c of the Chicago representation, which also makes their debut the highest local act for a majority of the board. Even funnier is that the second highest across all our lists... is Ratboys at #6 (also from Chicago, obvs). curious to hear some board discourse on this point - i'd be interested to go back through chicago residents' lists and see if there is a bias toward beach bunny or ratboys being higher than non-residents. i would agree that in any regular year, it probably makes a difference because you're naturally able to see a chicago act do more chicago shows, you get more into the band, etc. but i think regional bias would be at an all time low this year I don’t live in Chicago but Beach Bunny was at the top of my list. Maybe because I saw them twice before the album came out and once the same weekend? Something about it just hit with me and I’ve listened to it a ton.

Big thanks to Timbo for doing the legwork here, and big thanks to everyone who voted. Pretty sure our top 5 is the best from a diversity/inclusion standpoint, even though the Phoebe album.....is just ok.

Phoebe album is great.
Where did the list thread go? Am I just missing it, or was it removed?

Beach Bunny's debut album at #5 is pretty wild, as it's the highest debut album from a new artist on our yearly lists ever. This would be purposely excluding Jack White's "Blunderbuss" from 2012 b/c a.) it sucks and b.) he wasn't new. Same year we had Father John Misty's "Fear Fun" which is yes, a debut album under that moniker but Tillman was releasing music before that under various names. Beach Bunny has a solid following without the publication adoration that both JW and FJM had, I'm guessing b/c of the Chicago representation, which also makes their debut the highest local act for a majority of the board. Even funnier is that the second highest across all our lists... is Ratboys at #6 (also from Chicago, obvs). genuine question, what does this mean? the ratboys album isn't a debut. maybe you mean second highest local album, but i didn't think so since you added "also from chicago" which all local albums would be. just wondering! and thanks for compiling the list and facts!

Yeah that's kinda worded weird. I meant that it was the next highest local act. But I said Chicago bc not everyone is from Chicago here.

I dig this list. One of our more varied efforts if I recall correctly. Suite For Max Brown landing in the top 20 is wild to me, and I love it.
I feel like I've failed Sondre by not pushing him into at least the top 50. Warmed up to Patience considerably over the course of the year and that webcast from last week really emphasized how great of an album it is.
