I would be remiss not to double back on thebosma 's pick since I've had some time to revisit it. Psychadelic roots dead (to borrow a word from andrewvb ) is extremely cool. i guess i prefer the next decade on the whole but am gaining even more appreciation for it by listening to a show like this. i will restate - pigpen rules. a good experience that i will give a 3.0/5As far as my pick goes, Jerry is definitely in great form. Echoing teekoh , Bertha's jam has some pep and spirit that's hard to deny, and i like the way they throw it right into Good Lovin'. It's All Over Now is such a great song (low key favorite version - Rod Stewart's) and this performance is no exception. Would love to find their most ripping version of this. all in all they are definitely "on" for this one and i am giving it a 4.5/5 - tiger is approved. whos up next? ? ?

I had a whole folder of Dead MMJ Ween Elliot Smith etc in a bookmarks folder on archive.org on my last computer. I figured since it was chrome it would just be tagged to my Google but guess it wasn't. AvB it is!

Is there a band from the late 60s that was as Big and immediately Dated as Country Joe and the Fish? Love seeing them pop up on Dead bills / major 60s festivals and films constantly while having, like, zero cultural impact beyond their anti-Vietnam war chant.
Also, this show fucks - haven't heard it in over a year tho, so I'm psyched for this. BTW, it's on Spotify w/ the Complete Road Trips album. But good luck figuring out where it is on that inscrutable track listing.

Oh man, I'm listening through this again today - love love love the Dark Star > CCS > Eleven > Lovelight sequence, Jerry's leads especially are so clean and electric throughout. Also dying at the pre Dark Star banter: "We’re gonna blow this one on the first set, the second one’s the live radio one, but we’re gonna blow it on the first set.”
Second set is a super- Anthem of the Sun sequence, pretty hype to hear it. Dedicated to Neal Cassady, the beat-era eccentric, Kerouac inspiration, and Dead acquaintance, who passed away 10 days before the show.

I don't listen to a lot of live stuff before '72, mainly cause my folks never did. So it's nice to hear something outside of my usual bag of Dead treats I go to when it's that kinda time.
Agree with Monastary that Dark Start thru Lovelight is a really great run of tracks. Imagine the massive coronary people would give themselves if they didn't have a rider at the end of that CCS nowadays.
Expecting to enjoy the 2nd set as well: lots of tunes on it I haven't thought about in a while

Forgot to post my thoughts on this, but they mostly align with everybody else's. That Dark Star > CCS > Eleven > Lovelight stretch is some of my favorite of what we've listened to so far. It's especially interesting cuz it follows the worst thing so far, which is Good Morning Little Schoolgirl.
I really loved Spanish Jam into Alligator as well. Great pick.

somebody should pick one of these im bored as shit I gotchu - I’ve got one in mind but need to pull it up on my lunch break in about an hour Okay here goes! My next pick is gonna be 2/15/73 from Dane County Coliseum in good ol' Madison, Wisconsin. A HS friend of mine turned-Deadhead clued me into this show last month and I've been coming back to it repeatedly since. Like the best Dead shows from 73-74, it's equal parts jazzy, focused, and cosmic - and features some incredible jams (both Dark Star > Eyes and China > Rider here are fantastic) and live deep cuts (Donna covering Loretta Lynn!). I was pretty shocked to see this set is yet to see official release - get hip before it does! Here's a link to the show, more notes and background to follow! archive.org/details/gd1973-02-15.sbd.hall.1580.shnf

Revisiting the first set of this one today - usually I just jump in at China > Rider. It’s a solid first set, but nothing extraordinary. Stick with this one, folks! The payoff on the backhalf is well, well worth it.
Also, Phil’s delivery on Box of Rain reminds of Sam France from Foxygen’s more painful Dylan impressions lmao. I really wanna be #TeamLetPhilSing but I just can't.
Edit: This show really picks up at Row Jimmy - hell yea, we're in the pocket now
Edit 2: Aaand right into a very fitful Jack Straw. China > Rider up next tho, we made it.
