I admittedly lived in bad spots for parking. My car was hit a couple times when I lived off Southport/Fullerton and then obviously living in Wrigleyville is badbadbad if you have a car. I lived off Ashland and Fullerton and that was the worst for having a car. So many drunk drivers in that neighborhood.

I bought some glasses for the eclipse on 8/21. Denver's supposed to have about 92% coverage of the sun.

I'll be on a plane flying from Vegas to Denver when it happens. I'm kind of intrigued how it will look.

I haven't had a car for 5 years - it's pretty easy if you're in the right city. THIS

Cool! Meanwhile, I still have get my driver's licence Do you ride your bike everywhere? What about when it's freezing cold? If you go to the airport, do you take a taxi? I live a 5-minute walk from my job (make it 10 if I tag a little detour to grab a yummy coffee and a local café, which I usually do), and can also walk pretty everywhere as I live right downtown (I use my bike or take the bus if I need to go anywhere further - e.g. Montreal or a remote suburb - and yes, usually fork out USD30 for a taxi to, or from, the airport) Mind you, and even though I've travelled across over 60 countries without a driver's licence, I won't lie and tell you that I (also) enjoy having a lived-in boyfriend who has a driver's licence and a car -- for instance for weekend day trips to the countryside, national parks. Oh and it was also handy to explore Iceland

I hung up my Ryan Adams @ The Vic aftershow poster, and I love it. Probably one of my favorite gig posters in my collection.

Anyone here have any advice for negotiating the price of a car? I've never done this, and I think we're going to buy it next weekend. I'm thinking we need to go into the dealership with a price in mind and not waver, but any other tips would be appreciated.

In the past, I've gone in and started making an offer 20% under what they show on the sticker, and work with them from there. Some brands were going with the "price is as shown" thing, so that may not always work. But they'll most likely work the price down.
Also, get pre-approved for a car loan before you go in there. I did that through my bank and was approved for something like 3% APR, the car dealer then took that and got me 1% APR through their bank. So it's a good bargaining chip.
And I don't think you're dealing with trading in an old car, but if you were, take care of the sale yourself and don't do it through them. Just takes another bargaining chip out of their hands.

Go to Facebook, enter "consumer reports buying a new car" into the search bar, then select Show All Posts. Lots of recent, very helpful information. Be careful if you're planning to lease - there are many more variables which makes it easier for the dealer to make an inequitable profit on your sale. Also consider using CR's car buying service: www.consumerreports.org/cro/car-prices-build-buy-service/index.htmTakes the hassle out of negotiating. And NEVER get the rust-proofing, undercarriage coating, etc.!

Last car I bought I went in with a monthly payment in mind. Dealers will play all sorts of tricks with financing rates, down payments, add-ons, and just about any other number they can adjust. Bottom line is you know how much you want to pay a month and the rest is just noise.

Just guessing, but I think most autos come with rust-proofing already.

Seinfeld reference indeed, but one that rings true. They are examples of pricey add-ons that represent pure profit for the dealer while adding literally no value to your new vehicle. Modern cars are already highly resistant to rust and such services are basically a dealer scam.
