Nope. I had to drive to work, so I couldn't wait around when I first noticed it, and then when I went into the station, they said to see if we could work it out amicably first, as I hadn't called yet. But I've called five times now, so it can actually be justified as a hit and run. damn, sounds like you have their license plate number though? |

My TV just died tonight, and the person who hit my car either isn't answering, or left a fake number.

Thanks! We're taking a break and trying to rest a little bit before heading back to hang out with the kiddo in the NICU. The concept of time is foreign to me at this point.

Staying in a windowless room with just a bed and TV in the hospital for the next few days. Not sure how offering a room like this could be legal, and not having any light coming in is sure a nice way to go insane.

Hoping we can take her home tomorrow. She's been doing great this week, but the doctors are pretty strict with the goals she needs to meet each day, so who knows. I get it, but then a doctor comes in and says "we don't even hold full term babies to this type of standard," and it gets a little frustrating.

We're home. One of the doctors tried to suggest we leave her there for another day even though she crushed every test they threw at her, but we were able to successfully convince them we were better off here. So happy to be back.

Dumb turntable question:
I just set the thing up after having it boxed since April and the speakers sound great but it looks/sounds a little like the plastic around the needle is actually dragging slightly against the vinyl. Should I buy a new needle or is it a problem with how I set the arm?

if the plastic of the cartridge is dragging on the needle then that is very weird. is it like tilted to the side and dragging in a corner, or is it like the needle is digging so deep into the record that the front of the cartridge is also hitting the vinyl?
if you just took it out of a box from a while, you'll want to rebalance the tonearm.

I had to go to work so I couldn't spend as much time fiddling with it as I'd wanted. Or take pics yet. From my point of view it looks like the needle actually sinks low enough that the front of the cartridge grazes the vinyl; I would think this would fuck up the sound, but again the speakers sound great. It's only when I'm standing right over the turntable that I can hear a light scraping.
I'll mess with the arm later tonight and hopefully just fumble it out.

It sounds like either your tracking weight is way too high and the cartridge is pushing down to far onto the record or if the tonearm has a height adjustment, it got bumped lower. Or small possibility your platter isn't seated properly and its raised up somehow. What turntable do you have? |
