I'm kinda pissed that we didn't get more backstory or motivation from the Night King but holy fuck that was wow Saving it for the spin-off

How many dragons are left? Two? I'm not sure if it's clear if Rhagal survived or not. Edit: Wait Rhagal was in the preview? I need to watch that again.

Watching it with friends and as soon as Arya left I was like "oh snap!" Worked pretty well. Some definitely stupid moments tho. Dany parking her dragon in the middle of a bunch of undead and just sitting there was the biggest wtf. Also, the team protecting Bran had the smallest chance of success and yet they do a lot better than the army outside, comparatively. I get Theon facing death but I've seen so many movies where that "charge into the bad guy " thing hasn't worked, so his death wasn't that sad/surprising/thought out.
Good episode over all but there's some lazy writing still happening. Juggling this many characters/arcs isn't easy so it's not a big deal to me. Just a few wtfs.

Also love how rango is acting like they had dozens of chances to stab the NK and just never thought of trying it.

Re: The dark battle. I immediately turned off my lights and it made all the difference. Still a lot going on, but it made it so much easier to see.

Ya if the lights are off and you have a semi decent tv, don't really see how you can't tell what's going on

I don’t even know what to think. I love Arya and her role at the end was awesome. But I don’t get Bran. I guess his whole purpose for the last 7.5 years was to be bait.
The military tactics were laughable (let’s have our cavalry charge into an enemy we can’t see!). I like how everyone in the front line when the army of the night hit lived. I have no idea what role characters like Brienne, Podrick, Davos, etc will serve except to be fan favorites. By letting all these characters live, it’s almost like the series is subverting it’s own tropes.
Eh, mixed feelings.

Great episode, not as good as the Battle of the Bastards, but still fulfilling enough. My heart rate went through the roof. But, where do we go from here? I mean, the whole thing was about Winter Coming, now it came and went, so, back to hating Cersei?

All my lights were off, so I didn't really have a problem seeing.

Sending the Dothraki out like that was a huge mistake, but mistakes have been made in every battle in this show.

Are there any Dothraki left now?

I was expecting more deaths from secondary characters, but obviously there's quite a bit of time for these people to meet their makers. It's not just going to be Cersei & Euron going down, I'm sure there will be some heartache as well.

Are there any Dothraki left now? We saw a few randoms ride back, but not many. They should have never crossed the narrow sea.

Anyone else think it was odd that they had Ghost in the vanguard? I guess they just wanted to write the Direwolfs off of the show ?

I loved the episode overall, but the crypts were a bit underwhelming after all the build up. Maybe we'll get more next week though.

Man that episode had some incredible moments and had me really tense but I have a hell of a lot of problems with it. It felt like there was a ridiculous amount of plot armor for a lot of the characters, like way more people should be dead right now, as well as some stupid decisions. And the lighting was at times effective, but overall really annoying and it made some of the fights much less interesting because I could barely tell what was going on
I liked the way it ended though. I mean I guess overall there were things to like but it's not the episode I hoped it'd be.
Oh well, here's hoping the next couple are great

Not gonna be great when Dany finds out that her two loyalest factions - the Dothraki and the Unsullied - were pretty much entirely wiped out? Then again, idk if enough others are left for that to make a difference.
Edit: I mean, having dragons helps assuage that pain but still

She only has Drogon now. Rhagal is bonded to Jon.

In an episode full of terrible tactics, both sides' use of dragons absolutely has to be the top.
Also, maybe you should have given, idk, like, even a dozen swords to the folks in the crypt?

speaking of the crypt, i thought for a moment that sansa and tyrion were going to do some thelma and louise suicide thing when they got knives out and just looked at each other.

Yeah not leaving at least one like one fighter in the crypt to protect them was ridiculously dumb, or just some weapons, or literally anything. Give Tyrion a crossbow at least
God the more I think about it the more I'm mad at this episode

Yeah same. Scariest part for me was Dany/Drogon almost getting hit by ice spear and Dany getting thrown off Drogo.

god i am never on the same page as y'all lol. the show has time and time again shown that these characters are absolute imbeciles when it comes to military strategy and plot armor is strong as it needs to be so that stuff doesn't really bother me at this point.

If I just want an action fix without concern for things making sense, there are so many movies that happen in the daylight.

I think people would feel more, satisfied, I guess with this episode had plot armor not protected a few folks whose arcs seemed to be at their natural conclusion, i.e. Tormund, Brienne, Greyworm, etc. Like, I get why the majors had to be protected, and even people like Sam, if it’s true that his fate is to write all this down. Felt weird to see these semi-important characters survive basically solo fights versus the hordes, almost as if fan service alone is their plot armor.

We've seen characters die regardless of where they are in their arc so in hindsight not sure how important it is. After Jon literally charged a while army and a horde of arrows in Battle of the Bastards and survived, and then nearly suffocated and survive, and then followed Ramsay back to the castle to fight him and survived, I stopped really caring too much about the nuances of the battles in this show.
