Prima at least acknowledged the bar situation. Hopefully they rectify it today. We left the fest a bit early, around 3:30 and only waited 15 min to board the bus. The bus drop off was only about 50 ft from our hotel entrance which was nice. Other than the aforementioned crowd/logistics issues we had a great time. Weather was ideal and it is a very coo location. Huge footprint though so a lot of walking and we didn’t even get over to Bits. We saw Kim Gordon > Les Savy Fav > Kacey > Charli > Tame Impala > 100 Gecs > Pavement > Big Feedia > Otoboke Beaver. Only bad set was Kacey who played tons of material from her shit latest album. How in the world did you get into Kim Gordon lol. The Auditori has been such a clusterfuck

I’m at the boiler room stage rn and it’s pretty awesome, but also having this here exacerbates the bits problem

The FOH VIP area is be the biggest logistical clusterfuck lol. They are alternating the exit and entrance sides between sets and there’s only a single person point of entry on the P&B side. So we had to wait for the entire Fontaines crowd to exit and then there was a huge push to get in. Once inside the lines at the bar and toilets are much longer than GA. This whole side of the fest is insane and I can’t imagine they could have implemented more poorly if they tried. About to see Beck and The National so todos bien I guess.

you know, uh, you guys are not filling me with a ton of confidence about next weekend... Sometimes it’s easier to complain than to brag about how much fun you’re having. I made my posi vibes post last night cuz I felt like I’d been coming across way more negative than I was feeling It’s definitely too crowded at a bunch of sets, but for the most part things are very chill and fun

Some positivity: Location and weather are both amazing. Waits for food have been very short. Sound has generally been very good to great. Lots of different routes to get back and forth on the main side of the forum.
The situation with water is inexcusable and they are fortunate it is not 10 degrees warmer this weekend.

Literally the most overcrowded fest I’ve ever been to. Truly maniacal. Bar lines are still horrible but food and restrooms are easy.
The one positive is that so far all bands have been good and sound good.
Autechre played completely in the Auditori in total darkness, not visible at all, and so many people huffed out halfway through, honestly an incredible move 10/10

One way I can reassure mookie, is by noting that there are no shows at the auditori w2, so you won’t even have to deal with that (though I was pumped to see Arooj in there when I was working on a mock)

The National was best set of the fest so far

The amount of cigarette smokers everywhere seems way up compared to 2016 and they are not considerate. Only major negative for me so far.

Got to meet postfontaine today which was awesome. Saw Pond, Weyes Blood, Tropical Fuck Storm, Beck, The National and Caribou. All good sets. Saw Jamie xx at Coachella so didn’t feel like I needed to see him again. Walked around a while after Caribou and wandered over to bits which was dead, wandered around and then left. It is a beautiful park to explore for sure.

Fountaines-Beck-National- Caribou- Jamie run was A+ and I got back to my hotel by 4:30 which was solid. Great second day.

The alternating exit for the vip pit is so dumb. If anything you should be able to enter on the side where the band isn't playing. Would be so much easier. I didn't buy a single drink in there yesterday. Got all of mine back VIP and then walked into the pit.

irvred did you have to fill out that SPTH code thing? I just tried and since I'm connecting through Frankfurt, it says I don't have to. I am completely confused Edit: never mind, I changed the country of origin from Germany to US and that did it

Beck was awesome tonight but I cut out.a bit early since I wanted to have an early night and it was the same setlist at the festival. Also my new hotel rips. The bed is massive my room has a balcony and the hotel has a rooftop pool.

Jehnny Beth was awesome, but we were standing against the railing in front of the soundboard and before Beck they moved part of the railing to get some equipment out and then pushed it forward when they put it back, so we were essentially pinned in place the entirety of Beck’s set. So although he was good the experience was miserable. Also that venue was wayyy over capacity. Not the best note to end the trip on but overall an amazing week.

They also had one little exit up front which seems like a safety hazzard with over 1,000 people. I ended up going upstairs a few minutes into Beck's set and there was much more room up there.

Made it to the airport. I know I’ve complained a lot but overall the festival was a lot of fun. I think it’s just disappointing to put the time, money, and energy into coming to a fest based on its reputation and end up feeling they dropped the ball on so many standard things like water and crowd control. I think the new Mordor setup is a catastrophe waiting to happen. They had to know what a mess it would be and either had no choice or chose not to care. It was awesome to see Gorillaz and Nick Cave up close without having to move far but leaving after Gorillaz was mental. But to recap some good stuff:
- Location is amazing. I loved the hell out of the Parc. - Weather was spot-on. Never hot enough to use sunscreen or cool enough for a second layer. - Merch line was pretty easy. If anyone is going W2 and buying a shirt I’d recommend sizing down though. - Staff was generally very friendly. - Most sets were good to great. Nick Cave > Gorillaz was incredible. - there were four or five people who dropped during the two sets above but the crowd worked really well together to get security’s attention. - Crowd was a mixed bag. Great for a lot of shows but also a lot of talkers and SO MUCH WEAVING. - Always easy to get food. - Sound was generally good as well. - Buses back to Plaça seemed to move steadily.
Speniding a few days in Barcelona beforehand was incredible. TBH the trip would have been worth it just for that. I fucking love this city. My Dad even said it was the best trip he’s ever had. Definitely will return to BCN but not sure I’d come back to Prima until they iron out some issues.

Yeah I still had a great time weekend 1, but the fest feels like Coachella and Lolla sized now but without the same organization- logistics. I'm looking forward to weekend 2 and just as importantly exploring the city more this week.

Has there been any indication of them continuing two weekends going forward?

Has there been any indication of them continuing two weekends going forward? Sounds like the second weekend is effectively in Madrid next year( but I would expect similar lineups if not identical). Barcelona's city government only approved two weekends for 2022 because of Covid. I talked to some locals and they aren't happy with the festival's expansion because of the strain it puts on the cities hotels and transportation system.

We were never able to successfully upload our tests online and nobody asked for them coming back. We even asked the gate agent before our US flight and were told as long as we had received boarding passes they didn’t need anything else.
