So, like, the Beatles are obviously better. But at this point in my life, I'd rather listen to the Stones. Probably just because I've heard all the Beatles songs ad nauseam? So the Stones just sound fresher to me b/c I haven't worn them out yet.

I’ve only watched the first episode but it seems incredibly up your alley. Has me listening to the Beatles again for the first time in a while

i lean beatles because song-for-song they're stronger. there is something like 10-12 total hours of beatles music. and a lot of it is really good. i love the stones, but there is a lot of junk in their catalog even if i'd much rather listen to them than the beatles almost any day.

Stones forever. Someday I will write a thesis about how the Beatles never actually broke any new ground and there were countless bands doing what they did so much better at each stage of their career. But not today.

Oh God, no. They're just the better rock band. I think a lot of the Beatles/Stones differences revolve around whether you prefer Pop bands or Rock (or even jam) bands. The more I see Paul McCartney talk about music - like the clips I have seen of the Rick Rubin doc - the more respect I have for him as a musician. Beatles forever for me. Partially, I think because the longer the Stones released music, the less I cared for it.

This is also, I think, where the comparison breaks down, because the Beatles' discography gets to live in a shiny little time capsule, largely unblemished by midlife crises and geriatric performances This thesis is going to be so good

Another reason this is not a great comparison. Does quitting while they were still hot make them the better band?
