If I had to bet I'd bet that they find a way to work it out. Even with ticket sales in decline the festival still seems to benefit both parties. What market and location would be better for Lolla than Chicago/Grant Park?

Maybe finally turning Lollapalooza into two weekends like ACL and Coachella.

I think the 4th day was the compromise since the city wouldn't offer two weekends. Although with NASCAR coming and assuming the Taste is still a thing, it sounds like the park is already going to be shut down for most of July anyway.

Changing subjects, are they not going to announce Friday's aftershow at Metro until next week?

Changing subjects, are they not going to announce Friday's aftershow at Metro until next week? Maybe tomorrow? Trying to remember when they announced Them Crooked Vultures, I remember that was really close to the fest too Edit: I remember the Vampire Weekend show was announced on a Sunday, but I think that was still a couple of weeks before the show

All I hope is that the tickets don’t go on sale at the same time as Springsteen Milwaukee ones go up on Wednesday. Foo fighters were announced on a Monday with the onsale Tuesday.

I don't remember them ever cutting it this close before.

I really don't think Chicago can afford to lose Lolla right now, and Lori is looking for any economic wins she can get (and the tax revenue is significant). I think C3/Livenation holds some pretty good cards here but also has an incentive to make a deal after seeing how new/spinoff/relocating festivals have fared the past two years.

Moving Lolla to Arkansas or whatever I’m sure would go over about as well as anything else in Arkansas.

I heard St. Louis needs a festival after Lou Fest went defunct. I don't think that would align well with Live Nation/C3's goal of making money.

The chatter I heard from a friend in the entertainment industry, is that Chicago has a very expensive cost structure for a festival (union workers for almost everything, taxes, the costs to reconstruct Grant Park, especially if it rains, etc.). So it seemed like Live Nation/C3 was saying they would leave (perhaps just as a bargaining tactic?) I also heard that Porno for Pyros playing was sort of a parting gift for Perry.
This may be just gossip, but she has been right about things in the entertainment industry in the past.

I’m not going back to St Louis I haven't been back to stl in more than 2 decades, but am spitballing w/ the better half about driving down there in october, and staying in clayton, to see patd at the enterprise concert place. [patd's upcoming show in chicago is during riot fest, so that's out]. still have a couple of pals in stl, so it'd be a chance to say hey to them, also.

Chicago has a very expensive cost structure for a festival (union workers for almost everything) I'm involved behind the scenes at a few large events in Chicago and I can tell you with absolute certainty that the union rules are onerous. I was working the expo at one of Chicago's largest footraces and talking about wifi (since I wanted to stream a soccer match during my shift ) with the guy charged with bringing it in (since they aren't allowed to run their own). They paid $50k (ish) for 2 days of wifi that was capped at 100GB. (I don't remember the upload/download rate, but it wasn't enough to stream). Needless to say, we couldn't give the wifi password to anyone on the off chance we exceeded the data cap and were unable to manage runner needs. There was literally no option. We're inside a union building, the event contract stipulated who can bring in the service and the price of that service. I think it's safe to say that the costs for other events in the city are similarly bumped by union requirements, but I'm by no means laying all complaints about how much shit costs on the unions.

It’s so sick that they put out shit like that and then prevent people from bringing in narcan because it’s “paraphernalia”. Remember when that guy almost died a few years ago and the medics/security basically ignored him until someone repeatedly insisted it was a medical emergency? Very cool!
