Me too. My wife isn't going to Lolla but we are going to a Cubs game on 7-26, the Lincoln park Zoo on 7-27, and a White Sox game on 8-1. Hope the weather is like this all week.

it needs to be cut back to 3 days from 4, and there needs to be way more legacy / old acts.
I am not opposed to getting rid of it completely, especially if we could move riot fest back to humboldt, or even if not.

It sounds like RIP wine carafes at Lolla... based on this reddit post of this year's bar prices, it seems they've lost Cupcake and gone with a canned winemaker called Bev instead...and no reds, I guess... There was the beer and wine garden on the map, so hopefully more options there. www.reddit.com/r/Lollapalooza/comments/w6xvjq/prices/

If I end up buying a Friday ticket on Stubhub this week can I just go pick up the wristband at the box office Friday morning?

Anyone here need a four-day? Stubhub prices got low enough that I sprung for VIP, so now I've got an extra GA. Boardies get "friend prices"

I am kind of interested, sleeping. I have not yet bought tix, and was actually only thinking of a one day ticket or a two day bundle (don't care about metallica or green day, but still was thinking of thurs / sat). I'm not sure I want to tire myself out so much over 4 days (I think I try to do too much each lolla day, instead of limiting the acts I sample).

I participated in a Lolla Discord AMA with the head booker, Huston Powell, a bit earlier this evening and a few interesting takeaways. TLDR is that Kendrick and Billie Eilish seem like they might be on deck for 2023, and Taylor Swift might be entertaining US festival offers. - Understandably wouldn't comment on the specifics of the lost 2020 line-up, but said it was complete and ready to go before COVID hit. When they were trying to sort out what was feasible, heard from a lot of acts that they just wouldn't be comfortable performing, no matter what the outlook was later that summer.
- 2021 booking really started in September of 2020. Said about 2/3's of their 2020 bookings came over to the 2021 line-up. Was particularly hard because there was a lot of skepticism that the event would even happen, and early in 2021 it became clear that international artists really weren't an option. Visas delays, COVID travel restrictions, and the inability for smaller/mid-level acts to plan enough tour dates around it made it not viable.
- Had mentioned REM as a personal dream booking in the past, but thinks they're never getting back together and even if they did the audience for it wouldn't fit with Lolla. Says he'd love to get Kendrick back but this year Kendrick really wanted to focus on his own arena production. Asked for ideas and was offered Pearl Jam, which he basically confirmed was really hard for them to book given what they can get out of playing Wrigley. Longer shows, complete control, 2 nights, a whole merch operation and a huge marketing push around the city. Would still love to see them back though, because there are so few big legacy rock acts left and they like to book acts that have historical ties to the festival.
- Chicago has so many venue options, supports so many festivals and is a part of almost any tour routing, which can make it particularly challenging to book and schedule. Mentioned that one of the first calls he made this year was to The Weeknd, and his folks immediately said "he's planning to play Solider Field next year (2022)", so a lot of it is reconciling what you want with what's possible.
- Often starts by trying to fill in the headliners first, and trying to build around them -- but if there are acts he's sure they want, he will grab them. Cites Charli XCX, Girl in Red, Billy Strings and Wet Leg as some examples from this year.
- Mentions elevating past Lolla acts as something they take pride in. Cited J Cole as an example more than once as an artist they were early on. Told the Gaga story too, admitting her management called and offered to play the BMI stage for free.
- Talked about the process of replacing acts, with Doja Cat as the example. Said he was coming out of the gym and had missed calls and texts saying "call us back" -- never a good sign. He said they were starting from square one, and he actually looked at instagram and other social to source ideas for who people wanted to see. Specifically calls out Billie Eilish as someone that wasn't a possibility because she already had tour dates in Asia. Said another limiting factor was making sure the booking would compliment and not compete with Green Day -- so an act like Nine Inch Nails wasn't in play.
- Said he had been to some BTS shows in Vegas, and had been talking to their camp about doing something for a while. Has seen renders for the J-Hope set and thinks it's going to be special. A totally new environment for him, and one he's very excited about.
- Someone asked about Daft Punk, which he humored. Said they check in regularly with their camp, but there's no signs that they plan to walk back their retirement. Cites their 2007 set as a watershed moment for the festival and hopes to one day book another electronic act on the South Stage... but don't hold your breath for Daft Punk anytime soon.
- He said he's already working on the 2023 line-up. Doesn't directly tie the two but in the same breath mentions Kendrick and Billie again as two people he thinks will be back on a Lolla stage soon (as opposed to Daft Punk).
- A question is asked about the difficulty of booking festivals lately, and the sense that festivals are disappointing or very similar. Didn't go super in depth here, but said they do look at the feedback and try to find places to improve. Says he would appreciate it if the folks who do like the booking let the "shit is mid" crowd know from time to time lol
- Follows up by asking who the person asking the question would like to see. The questioner says Frank Ocean. He acknowledges that's a common request and they take pride in booking Frank for the Grove in 2012. No indication that it's likely (got the sense it was a 'we'd love to have him, but who knows...' scenario).
- The moderator offered a few other names that had come up in chat. Most rattle by, but when she dismissively says 'A lot of people here would love Taylor Swift, but we know she's not really a festival girl" he jumps in and says "well, I wouldn't be so sure about that..." or something to that effect. Seems to imply that she's at least entertaining some bookings in the coming year or two.

Oh, two other interesting notes that I forgot to mention.
He confirmed that they have some wiggle room to move artists to different stages/time slots before the schedule drops, but it's limited and is often about timing. Cites Post Malone as someone who was probably the third biggest act on the entire line-up the year he subbed on the North Stage, but they weren't in a position to change things up. Says the first time Billie Eilish was set to play in 2018, she was supposed to be an early day act and they moved her to a more appropriate slot.
To start the process, he operates off what's essentially a blank daily schedule with a budget and slots. Schedule is largely sketched in as they book (mostly citing this to underline my frustration with festivals like Coachella who act like the schedule can't possibly be released until week of).

since the day they broke up, everyone has known that REM is never, ever, re-uniting.

Maneskin is doing a pop up performance for Q101 at Reggies Friday at 5. First come, first served I would think about this, but I have the Iann Dior in studio promo show at b96 at 4:30, and although I'd bet reggie's starts late, I don't think it's logistically possible to hit both of them.

I really doubt Taylor Swift ever does the full festival circuit but I also feel like she's bound to play Coachella at some point. I feel like nearly every major star is going to play it at some point. I'd almost guess maybe he heard rumblings of her being the 3rd headliner there

I'll try for a ticket but I hope they play some more deep cuts like they have at previous club shows. Don't need the same set list that they will play at Lolla.
