I've gone since 2013 and I like this less than most of the past few years. I still think it's a great lineup, but I'm usually a little more excited for some of the earlier sets.

I like 2008 a lot. Mid day Fleet Foxes (plus a free Millenium park thursday pre-show) and VW sets, Rae + Ghost -> Bon Iver -> Cut Copy on the blue stage on Sunday, AnCo and Spoon headlining during a good period of music for both bands 15 minutes of cut copy was probably the most disappointing thing about that year.

Just curious for those who've been going earlier than 2014, how would you rank this lineup compared to previous P4K lineups? This lineup is by no means bad, but it seems like there's less artists as a whole compared to usual. I'm also not a fan of unopposed headliners. Even when it's a heart-wrenching conflict I like to have options. I have very little interest in Solange and think it's pretty lame that it's basically see her or go home. As a whole, this year and last year were much weaker than the previous few years. FKA Twigs couldn't even fill an hour as a headliner and really should have just subbed like St Vincent in 2014. I love Beach House but their choice of songs was rather weak for that set and the cover had no business being played at a headlining set at a festival. Ranking the years I've been: 1. 2014 2. 2013 3. 2015 2012 4. 2011 5. 2010 6. 2016 7. 2017

2103 was my favorite year. I cared about all 3 headliners, plus you had Swans, Pissed Jeans, METZ, Wire, The Breeders, Savages, etc.
I don't know what my plans are Thursday night, girlfriend and I are going on a Chicago Architectural Tour at 5:30. That's all I have right now.

How early are y'all thinking of getting to this by in hopes of getting in? Not sure if showing up before doors is advisable with this or if that would just be a waste of time. Anyone getting dinner anywhere before?

last one i went to i got there 15 mins before doors and the line was almost around the entire block, however i still got in fine. i would guess demand would be smaller for this one, but around doors or a bit before would be smart.

I'm planning on getting there right at doors. I may eat there or I may grab food at Urbanbelly or Kaiser Tiger beforehand depending on how hungry I am...
The fact that RSVPs are still open seems promising.

I really wish there were a Randolph bus. Guess I'm taking the Madison, or the Green Line and walking. I suppose if we eat near that west intersection that wouldn't be so bad. Kaiser Tiger's pretty great.

i'll probably walk straight there from work at 5 so i'll let everyone know the line situation. but if it's not bad and people are hanging out before (kaiser, belly, etc.) i'll mosey that way.
if we don't eat before, i am gonna recommend we eat there or somewhere after before we go to smartbar because that much alcohol with no food was a fucking abhorrent idea thursday last year. then again that's my fault for working friday.

My prediction is there will be a YUGE line initially for the free food and drinks and then a majority will leave right before the first opener.

I think overall this is my favorite Pitchfork lineup with 2010 and 2013 being close behind

FWIW I showed up to the punk night (Lawrence Arms/D4) a couple weeks ago at 7:45 (45 minutes after doors) and was promptly told I had no chance of getting in. I think Charles Bradley will be even worse since so many Pitchforkers are off on Friday and planning on that as their Thursday pre-show.
Showing up early might be wise.

p sure Lawrence Arms got a noticeable hometown and/or Riot Fest bump. HoV is also a skate park when music isn't playing so the local goers are p much already the same crowd.
dunno if Charles really pulls that many kids and p4k folk will have lots of options that night
