Figured we needed a spot for local band recommendations. Saw these guys last night, and they were incredible: thevelveteers.bandcamp.com/track/death-hexSounded like a better version of The Kills live. They're only touring Colorado and Kansas at the moment, but I've heard they'll be accompanying Deap Vally on their tour. New board darling!

Not a Chicago band, but they play Chicago sometimes. Check out Kansas City locals Making Movies. The play a mix of rock and salsa music.

ratboys are my current fav young chicago band. their latest album came out last month, called GN, and is very good and has been getting a lot of plays from me. i got to see them live at wicker park fest this weekend, and they were really great and actually even better than on album which was a pleasant surprise. indie rock of the jangly guitar variety.

For any of you Chicago peeps into folky stuff, CLT's own Sinners and Saints will be in your midst this evening at Uncommon Ground.

Can anyone recommend me some great neoclassical dark wave artists (similar to Dead Can Dance)?
