Meh. AIC doesn't hold up all that well.

I disagree. I don't care about much grunge, but I still like the AIC hits.

Has anyone listed Vulgar Display of Power?
Maybe I should make a list too, I liked the 90's a lot.

VDoP is a GOAT candidate but Phil is really tough to support at this point.

Oh fuck Phil for sure, but I'm not gonna ignore a band's work just cause the lead singer turned out to be a huge douche. Pantera was always the Darrel brothers project to me anyway, Phil was just the dude they brought in to sing.

it's honestly really hypocritical of me cause i have no problem listening to black metal bands who have singers who are white supremacists or have been convicted for beating their spouses or worse.
i guess it's just cause we hold Pantera is such higher regard that you wanna expect more of them, which is silly cause Phil was a piece of shit even in the band's heyday.

I really like the first Down album too. Phil had a very good run or at least attached himself to a lot of interesting projects (particularly ones that were not HELLYEAH).

Even as a kid I thought that Mellon Collie shouldn't have been a double album. I rarely ever listened to that second disc. That's a shame, since the album's two best songs ("Thru the Eyes of Ruby" and "By Starlight") are on the second disc, and "Bodies" is such an underappreciated gem.

Mellon Collie is a great album. Wouldn't make my top 10 but the more cringeworthy "world is a vampire" goofiness becomes less offensive over time. There's almost a period piece 90s alt-rock charm to even the more ridiculous songs.

Adore is more of a 90s period piece than Mellon Collie.

The biggest fight I can ever remember getting in to with my brother when we were kids was when I went out and bought Adore before he had a chance to. I don't remember why, but he felt like he couldn't buy it too and was livid that I got it first.
I was twelve and probably shouldn't have been allowed to walk to Tower Records on my own anyway. Not sure what happened there.

My brother and I had separate CD collections - several duplicates. But there's a huge age difference between us.
He stole my Automatic for the People CD and I was pissed at him for about a year.

No, only I bought it. He wanted to be the one to technically have ownership of it in the household though and was an angsty 17 year old so he got real mad about it.

Luckily my sisters somehow developed similar interests and took care of what I had once they got into HS.

Are we including compilations/soundtracks? If so, add The Crow soundtrack to my list.

Crow, Natural Born Killers, and Lost Highway soundtracks are still the best of any decade ever.

It is puzzling that people are talking about 90s soundtracks and leaving out Judgement Night.

Adore is more of a 90s period piece than Mellon Collie. Adore has elements that I don't really associate with a lot of the 90s. There was that synth electrorock period during the tail end of the decade but it was kind of different then the earlier industrial rock. Mellon Collie seemed like the finale (from a popularity perspective not creative) of the alt-rock early 90s boom. It's a great album but there are large parts of it that are really overwrought. It's like reading a college admissions essay from a HS kid about the societal pressures of being a 16 year old. There is some creativity but it's wrapped up in a lot of pompous self-importance and self-flattering angst about things that are utterly pointless. Fun but totally disposable.
