Curious how this breaks down for this board.
If I'm expecting a call I usually will but otherwise god made voicemail for a reason

When I first started my new job, my cell was in my signature line. I eventually got so sick of cold calls, half of which were work related, half of which were about my car warranty, that I complained to IT and had them remove my phone number from my signature line. Now I basically never answer unknown number calls for any reason.

Depends entirely on the situation. Did I call a doctor's office looking for a same day appointment earlier this morning and they said they'd call me back? Yes I will answer. Things like that. Although 4/5 times that still ends up with me getting burned by it being a telemarketer.

I will say I added myself to the do not call registry and I have Hiya as a spam filtering app on top of Verizon’s integrated spam filtering so I don’t get a ton of calls. I was getting 3-5 spam calls a day for a long time though and it made me feel like I was going insane

One thing that I really, really miss from my Google Pixel is how it would screen calls for me so I'd know whether or not I needed to answer. iPhone/iOS doesn't handle spam calls nearly as well.

never.
if i am expecting a call and the caller ID looks right, i answer. but i don't consider that an unknown number.

Only when it's from an NYC area code, like a 718 or 212 number.
All my spam calls are typically from Ohio area codes or somewhere else random, so if it's from NYC, it's probably someone who actually needs to call me. Tho like 50% of those calls are from my pharmacy or the blood donation center, so I don't take those anymore either lmao.
Edit: I should clarify that I really only adopted this practice since I started wedding planning.

no, but with my mom breaking a hip a month ago and me having to field calls from doctors, hospitals, rehab, nurses... i have had to.
so frustrating not knowing who it's going to be but it usually ends up being some flipper wanting to know if i'm ready to sell my house ;–)

when I answer calls from unknown numbers, I get into full cross-examination mode, so caller beware.
