answer this one without looking up whether or not you "should" You are driving and approaching an intersection with a red light. You're the first car to the intersection, and you are on a two-way street. However, you wish to turn left at this intersection, and the perpendicular street is a one-way street (to the left, the direction you wish to go). Because this is a one-way street, would you turn left on red?

Fair enough, didn't even know that was a rule in NYC.
There doesn't appear to be a correct answer to this; it varies from state to state, but I'm curious what anyone would do without knowing their state's specific rule (if they dont)

No offense but if you turn left on red in any other circumstance I think your knees should get broken

In Illinois I know you can only turn left on red when it’s a one way to a one way Following this rule. I follow this rule in Colorado but I feel like I'm the only one - I was actually honked at a few weeks back for not turning on a red. Colorado drivers are very very bad, though.
