If you're ever quoting KG lyrics in your review to make actual points, you're doing something actively wrong.

I'm sure VW will get like an 8.4 which will allow them to not actually have an opinion that any other critic has already said while still giving it BNM.
Big Thief will get an 8 as that's what a lot of those artists in their profile section seem to get

I just don't see VW getting a BNM. Of the six pre-release songs, only 1 of them got a BNT, whereas all of the new Big Thief songs have. they haven't been gushing over the new songs like others have. Could be wrong, but I think they are heading to 7's ville.

Last Mac DeMarco album got 3 of them and got a 7.9. 1975 they reviewed 3 singles and only one got BNT and it still got a BNM. Last father John Misty album they wrote a very negative review of one of the singles and the album got BNM.

all valid points. I just don't see it getting a BNM. I don't think it jives with P4K that much anymore. Kinda like how recent albums by The National, Deerhunter, Grizzly Bear, and so on ended up in the 8.0 and under range. If it does get a BNM, I think Tweet's right, it'll be a lower one, like 8.4.

Also valid.
IMO though the Deerhunter and Grizzly Bear albums were nowhere near as good as their preceding ones though. I love them both but the new Deerhunter came off like a half-baked sequel to Fading Frontier and new Grizzly Bear featured some very odd/not great tracks (the one the bass player sings wasn’t good, the first single was a very odd choice for a first single, the opening song is about a dude loving his motorcycle). Neither got a BNT and the singles didn’t get great reviews.
National album had a few dull tracks and I think they heard the first single and expected a bunch of scorchers with wailing guitar solos and expected some sort of angry Trump election reaction and then were disappointed that it was their most meditative release.

you are both ignoring the obvious factor that Vampire Weekend has hipper branding than those bands

Deerhunter and Grizzly Bear yes, but I'd say The National is in the same vein of hipster as VW.

I predict Big Thief with a BNM of 9.3 or something.

P4k should give FotB a 5.0 but put the review behind the paywall. Would be a great way to usher in their new revenue model.

Just saw a Pitchfork-sponsored ad for Saks Fifth Avenue (lulz) on Facebook. Only a matter of time until Payfork.

Their write up basically reads to me as "we miss the old very white vampy weeks who always wore polo shirts and boat shoes."
