I’m a huge fan but I’m still shocked that they gave Currents a 9.3.
Gonna go with a blind guess of 8.2

I love when Pitchfork gives a semi positive/negative review of a kpop group and their fan base just comes out and goes crazy about it

I saw an article before the Oscars that had me howling-- it was like "Why do critics love Bong but dismiss BTS?"
It would be like writing "Why do critics love the Coen Brothers but dismiss Imagine Dragons?"

I like the new Bad Bunny but if it's BNM then x100pre should have been their album of the decade.

that Code Orange score is brutal. I haven't listened to it yet but still.
Kinda surprised we got 3 BNM's in a row. That Jay Electronica album is totally deserving tho.

I've listened to it a couple of times now and it's fine. I'm nowhere near as excited about it as I was Forever, but there's a lot more of value in there than they give it credit for.
I will say that a lot of the nu-metal bits do kind of grate on me.

I am also the biggest Sam Hunt fan who reads pitchfork and the album was a let down Serious question: been meaning to ask about the backstory for this guy. There's the last album in 14, first single for this album in 17, and now this album. Why? Ex-College Football player, got a deal cuz good songwriter and very hot despite not coming from Nashville machine. First album way exceeded expectations both in regards to popularity and quality, balancing genuine pop sensibility while also having personality and incorporating Drake-esque hip hop tendencies in as non cringe-y ways as possible. Became very large very fast, but had no back catalogue and because of his kind of personal voice he needed to at least be a part of the songwriting process. put out "Body Like a Back Road" as a loosie as he needed a single out because he was already headlining festivals with one album of material and it became the biggest pop country song of 2017 and one of the biggest songs in general of the year but had equal backlash from the more serious outlets that praised his first album, next single absolutely sank. I imagine they scrapped the album because the second single did nothing. Released a few loosies since than that all did well on pop-country radio despite having no personality and they strung enough of those together that they just had to record a few songs around it and release it commercially. Album is kind of direcitonless because of it but he's certainly talented

Only on my second listen and its definitely an instant classic. Unforgettable album actually. Even if you dont like it, which there will be plenty here who won't, its still vastly unique. I think if any singer songwriter was deserving a 10 from P4K its Fiona.
