seriously almost exactly my prediction.
with the caveat of maybe they finally pull off Smashing Pumpkins with the original lineup.
or ya know, Fugazi and they only charge $5 a ticket and no alcohol/meat/fun during their performance.

I'd shit my pants if Fugazi reunited for Riot Fest.

Slow work day so here's my 2018 wish list (since this fest seems to get into my brain every year and pluck out my faves):
1) Rammstein- Their excessive fire at live shows is my personal hold up to them playing Riot Fest. Maybe the RF stages are suited for that kind of set up? I dunno. I do, however, think they'd fit in perfect at RF for their one off Midwest show their becoming accustomed to.
2) The Prodigy (performing "The Fat Of The Land")- They have a single being released soon and a full release in Spring 2018. Have them return to Riot Fest and perform their most popular album in it's entirety with 5-6 songs after that. The only track they'd probably not do a full version of would be "Narayan" but "Fuel My Fire", "Diesel Power" and "Serial Thrilla" would be fun to see live again after being dormant for close to 20 years.
3) Veruca Salt- Isn't this overdue? Many of the women who led 90's rock have played the fest so it'd be nice to see Veruca Salt take the stage in 2018.
4) Toadies- They seem due as well and are releasing a new album in the coming weeks. Plus, they are on tour with another act that is beyond overdue to play this fest and they are....
5) Local H- enough said
6) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club- Please God don't play Lollapalooza. PLEASE. New album coming out soon and they are on my bucket list still for some reason. They are playing Chicago in Feb and that'll likely break that streak but RF would be p cool too.
7) Anything Maynard- Tool would be amazing and an ideal #1 for 2018 but at this point, give us even Puscifer or APC. Amazing that Maynard hasn't appeared yet in any form.
8) Ice-T- He seems to be one of the few 80s/90s hip hop artists who hasn't played yet. I'm not talking Body Count either (although that'll do) but I want to see Ice-T perform solo tracks. LGBNAF would rule.
9) Butthole Surfers- Only if Gibby brings the shotgun though.
10) Porno For Pyros- There were rumors they wanted to reunite for some shows a couple years ago so why not now? It seems like a one off that would a) fit right into their demographic and b) is absolutely doable. Put them on at around 6-630 and Perry wouldn't even be drunk yet!
So...what are all of yours?

Iron Maiden - Arcade Fire - The Killers Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mano Negra (reunion; or just Manu Chao) - Brand New (before they break up)
You can also substitute any of those top 6 out for a Stray Cats reunion show.
Other notable acts I want to see on next year's lineup: Dreamcar, Catch 22 performing Keasbey Nights (20 years), Cursive performing The Ugly Organ (15 years), Thrice performing The Artist in the Ambulance (15 years).

I would put the odds of any of that top three playing at less than one percent.

And if they did, they wouldn't even have enough money leftover to pay Andrew W.K. and GWAR to fill out the bottom of the bill.

I would put the odds of any of that top three playing at less than one percent. I can understand the first two; more just pipedreams (and I missed Arcade Fire on this year's tour). But why such a low probability for the Killers? They seem like an obvious booking for this fest in a year that Lollapalooza doesn't grab them. They'll be touring in early 2018 on their new album. If it was a year later, I'd even hope for a 15 year Hot Fuss album show.

The Killers have wayyy too much pop/mainstream/Lolla appeal to be booked as a headliner for Riot Fest. That would be the shove from the edge of obnoxious faux-punk to blatant milquetoastery.

More than Blink 182, No Doubt, or Fall Out Boy, who all have headlined Riot Fest in the past? I agree they would need to be balanced out with a Jawbreaker or something less mainstream/pop, but I don't think it would prevent them from playing this festival eventually. *I'll add Paramore that list, even though they did not actually headline.

All of those bands at least have a veil of pop-punk to them. Hot Topic kids and 30-year-old skateboarders turn out for those bands. You're right they're mainstream, and I personally enjoy The Killers more than any of them, but The Killers do not fit the established aesthetic and are not 'punk' even by FOB standards.

I seem to remember Hot Fuss getting radio and tv play right next to My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and the rest of the bands in the scene that eventually moved into the mainstream. While I would not call the Killers "pop punk", they're some sort of radio friendly bastardized New Wave and Post Punk which still fits well with Riot Fest. I don't know one person who likes the Killers that did not dabble in the pop punk/skater/Hot Topic scene, and those of us who treat them like a guilty pleasure, probably would still enjoy a lot of the other offerings on a typical Riot Fest lineup.

Ozzy topping the bill during his farewell tour makes sense, right?
He wouldn't play Open Air two years in a row despite what Korn did. And Lolla sure as hell aint booking him. (I know Sabbath was booked but that was 2012, this is now).

it sounded like the tour is going to spread over the next 3 years so as a blanket "Riot Fest 2018-20" headliner possibility id say strong

Just get every band that's been featured on THPS series to play Riot Fest.

"history tells us a super popular metal act can headline two years in a row but it won't happen" spidey senses tell me they headlined a second year in a row because someone else cancelled last second. So that's why Korn shouldn't be considered the new norm* *-unless the new norm is bands cancelling

"history tells us a super popular metal act can headline two years in a row but it won't happen" Technically Korn didn't headline two years in a row. They got bumped up to headliner from sub after not putting out any new music or growing in popularity.
