There isn’t going to be a big to do over this list. The last couple have been *productions* only cause I was in the middle of a manic cycle high and thought “let’s have some fun!” There’s a lot going on now and the whole production thing seems tired anyway. I hope you understand.
I think I made my first board list in 2009 or something like that. It sucked shit. It’s lost to time but I’m pretty confident my top 2 albums were Green Day and Dinosaur Jr. A real study of contradictions! This is hard to explain to anyone who wasn’t there, but being a 16 year old kid in this era of music/the internet and having the ability to make your own (Shitty) list along with dozens of other people and fuck knows how many eyeballs lurking on the page was pretty fuckin awsome.
The lists are different and pinpoint to different years and trends and, for whatever my opinion is worth, have gotten a lot more diverse in both genre and personhood despite (because of?) different folks participating and no longer participating. Maybe it’s a sign I’ve grown up and matured and gotten a new set of perspectives as well. I should talk to a therapist about that.
So, here we are again. I’m still giddy over this after all these years- maybe the stuff I really liked will make it really high! Maybe something else I’ve never listened to or thought smelt funny will make it instead and I’ll ask “what gives?”. Maybe the first real year of being out and about after 2 years of pandemic living brought about a series of great albums and songs (you can vote for those here) that we can look back on 2, 5, 8 years from now and say, “Damn, lots of good tunes there that stand the test of time.” Maybe we’ll have canceled half the people on this list by then.
Lastly, I want you people to know that not a single Red Hot Chili Peppers album was nominated in any publicly available list. I want everyone who voted to know I’m so, so fucking proud of you all.
Each #1 album received 50 points, and so on and so forth. Ties were broken by the number of lists the album appeared on.
Posting this now so I don't delete it like I've already done this morning. Rest coming starting at 1pm.
