Really wish they'd announce a Big Thief or an Earl show since that's my only real conflict at the fest I don't think Earl is playing more shows than he absolutely has to these days...

4th show at SubT since June 2017 and 7th Chicago show in 18 months. Great get for P4K hate when pitchfork books good small local bands. Ticket prices have increased from $50 to $75 a day over the last 4 years and all you are getting for the extra money are performances from: The Curls (who play free shows), Joshua Abrams, and Melkbelly's 200th Chicago performance of the year.

Was really hoping Julien would do a show so I didn’t have to go Friday
Oh well, got a ticket for Japanese Breakfast

Open Mike Eagle @ Lincoln Hall 7/20 FUCK That's the one night I can't do a show. Probably gonna do CDY on Thursday, Japanese Breakfast on Saturday, and KAS on Sunday? That sounds good to me.

I don’t think I need to do any of these aftershows since I can see Zola conflict free at the fest

See? I just had to incoherently yell into the void and the venues (it not the fest inself) obliged

Will someone ask Phoebe Bridgers if Joshua Adams is making 20k to play this festival or not?

I am blaming Pitchfork for drastically increasing prices while offering nothing in the way of bigger/more interesting bookings.

then what do you mean by "all you are getting for the extra money are performances from" and then list the tiny local bands? it makes it seem like you're saying that's what you get for increased ticket prices.

I was referring to the extra time on Friday since gates used to open at 3pm on the first day.

i was gonna say, the main thing is you get a full day friday now. given festival ticket prices, i've always been impressed than pitchfork have kept them relatively consistent. they've actually only gone up from $60 to $75 per day since 2014 which is pretty minimal, plus they expanded friday in that time.

Aside from Tame Impala none of their top line acts seem very expensive. Lauryn Hill who couldn’t sell out her show last summer, Fleet Foxes whose latest spring tour of the South sold terribly, Chaka Khan who plays casinos for $20 a ticket
They haven’t added more water stations
There’s really nothing to justify the price change

honestly all these points are stupid except for the water one which is true what the hell pitchfork.
I also believe Pitchfork could charge half as much money and also book a good interesting music festival but that is no longer in the cards.

There’s really nothing to justify the price change $15 over four years. absolutely nothing to justify that bullshit.

$15 over four years. absolutely nothing to justify that bullshit. That's $60 I could've sent to my bar tab! it actually only went up $5 for 2015 and 2016 and then went up $10 from that last year when they booked the huge top line of lcd soundsystem/a tribe called quest/solange and made friday a full day. nothing to justify it.

Yeah, this is a pretty silly debate. $75/day is a bit pricey, but $175 for the weekend is pretty reasonable, and most folks here are buying on the secondary market at cheaper prices.
Also, if you think those prices are too high for this lineup, feel free to not go! No one is forcing you to go to any music festival

Seems pretty weird for people to defend the high prices of a festival none of us are going to pay anything remotely close to full price for

So, where was all this talk about high prices last year when the prices were almost the same?

So, where was all this talk about high prices last year when the prices were almost the same? The lineup was 100 times better then, so it was mostly justified

So, where was all this talk about high prices last year when the prices were almost the same? The lineup was 100 times better then, so it was mostly justified Then this is yet another discussion about the quality of the lineup, rather than the price of the festival. When I look at this lineup, it looks to me like it cost about the same amount to book as last year's fest, and more than 2016. This is my least favorite P4k lineup in at least 3 years (maybe more), but I still think it's pretty good and am very happy to be going. If anyone doesn't like the lineup and has no interest in going, I get it cuz that's how I feel about Lolla for 5 years running now. But if you think they're charging just as much after spending less on booking, that I don't get at all

My points were: a.) Melkbelly is a super lazy aftershow booking b.) which is an extension of P4K becoming a lazily booked and increasingly generic festival c.) which has also become increasingly expensive. d.) One can argue it is in fact too expensive because out of 100 Chicago-based music nerds, approximaty 0 feel the need to buy a full price ticket.

But if you think they're charging just as much after spending less on booking, that I don't get at all I don't think they're spending less or anything, but their budget looks to be the same even though ticket prices have increased 50% in four years. Single day tickets have increased from $50 to $75 since 2013 (that's 5 years), while the 3 day pass has gone from $120 to $175 in that same time frame. It is an approximate 50% increase over the course of 5 years, but to be honest it just went from a really great deal to a decent deal. I'm sorry that you're very upset that the fest has increased it's price to be more in line with fests of it's size. It does suck! But also, I really like this fest and I happily blind bought a ticket for this year during presale. I like supporting things I like. I also wouldn't hold it against anyone trying to get the best possible deal. As for the lineup, I was a little disappointed with it at first, but I also think the last 3 years were all fantastic lineups for my personal tastes and this one is not up to that standard. However, I have two very full days this year, plus Saturday which is just fine. I don't think the lineup is being lazily booked or increasingly generic, other than that there are more and more festivals, and it's become increasingly difficult to be super unique. I also think that some people should remember that not everyone who goes to this festival lives in Chicago (Hi!)
