Open Mike Eagle was fun but the sound kinda sucked. Serengeti doing "Dennehy" was fantastic though.
Julien Baker was fine but I had to tell different groups of knuckleheads to be quiet. She should try to get a full band on her next tour to flesh out her sound though because it's just not that engaging in a festival setting.
Big Thief was absolutely wonderful. The crowd up front was super into it and the new songs sounded excellent. Buck is such a terrific guitarist and the difference with him performing is enormous, even though I loved their trio show too. Best set of the day.
Courtney Barnett ripped. Huge fun crowd and awesome setlist. Lots of kids dancing with their parents which was super adorable. I know she's played Chicago twenty times in the last year but hopefully she comes back in the fall on that tour with Waxahatchee.
Tame Impala was alright I guess. I was never a big fan of them but I never disliked any of their albums either. Pretty cool stage production even though they should probably jam more and make more interesting music if they are going to take every page out of the jam band/psychedelic live playbook. I think my gf summed up the fanbase in the crowd perfectly by saying "these are basically people who love the Beatles but were never depressed enough in college to get into Animal Collective".

Courtney Barnett’s sound is always thin to me live. The same here and even the additional guitarist compared to las time didn’t help. She’s also just so sloppy live that at times it detracts from the songs.
Tame Impala was great. Much better than their UIC show where they basically phoned it in. Could have used more songs from their first two albums and EP and much less from Currents though. Love/Paranoia was just a huge clunker live, the backing visuals were overly psychedelic to the point of being parody and the song just seemed lifeless.
Big Thief was good but wasn’t the setlist I’d have preferred.

Anybody have a plug for a Sunday ticket? Stubhub is still crazy expensive.

OME and Julia Byrne were great. Saba was very good, everything else was various levels of fine. The lille bit of mount kimbie i saw before falling asleep was fun.

Courtney was my favorite set of the day. The Curls & Melkbelly were both really fun. Julien Baker was (to no fault of her own) super disappointing. The sound bleed from Saba was the worst I've experienced at Pitchfork. Crowd was terrible as well. So many talkers during Big Thief too. Was up pretty close on the left side of the blue stage. Blue stage and Tame Impala needed to be louder.
Still looking for a Saturday ticket if anyone is selling.

quiet sets never work at pitchfork, even on the blue stage, which is why it was all the more surprising that julie byrne was fantastic. thought the harp was a nice touch and very much enjoyed the set.
saw good stuff all day, mount kimbie was a blast. annoying that i had to leave open mike eagle early for tierra whack but both sets were really good.
festival was pretty packed as well.

Tierra Whack's DJ made me think I was in a Tim & Eric skit.

Any new songs from Tame Impala? Just curious to see if they're still trotting out the same show in 2018 that I saw in like May 2015.

Watching it via youtube it looked like the crowd was pretty thin compared to previous years but everyone there watched the Barnett set. Crowd looked massive.

It was pretty crowded. Honestly, I think yesterday was legitimately sold out (or very close). Today and tomorrow could very well be a different story though

Yeah everything I went to after OME was packed. Saba had the biggest 5pm crowd I've ever seen on a Friday.

by far the most crowd dense day of pitchfork I've ever been to. Nah. The year Chance The Rapper headlined was the most crowded. Yesterday, it didn't get packed til the evening as with most festivals.

I’ve gone every year since 2008 and that was nothing yesterday. It got decently full for Tame Impala but for Courtney Barnett you could’ve walked up to the barrier near the right side/middle.

The crowd for LCD was bigger than Tame Impala's but there were way more people there during the day this year than last year.

The way they moved the green stage this year makes it feel a lot smaller which is kind of a bummer

Security check was ridiculous. They just took each credit card out of my wallet and looked in each slot. Then turned it upside down and shook it.
