Imagine for a moment jukeboxes won't be all digital all the time, etc. What are some current alt/indie/etc rock songs you think are bound to be future classics?
It's on the mind because I'm watching "120 Minutes" and "Common People" just came on and I was almost...moved? Even though I'm not a Pulp fan. But man, what a great and classic song and to hear it for the first song as a new song and not just a jukebox classic seems special. But you don't always know what's special until some years have passed and you have the luxury of hindsight.

How recent is recent? I feel like The Strokes' early singles and a lot of Spoon stuff (The Way We Get By, Underdog, Camera On, etc.) would fit the bill. For the last ten years? Idk, it's hard to find alt/indie songs that are culturally ubiquitous anymore that don't suck. Maybe some of the Lonerism Tame Impala singles? Or "Red Eyes" or "Seasons (Waiting on You)"? I'll think about this some more.

The Strokes- "Last Nite" Radiohead- "Weird Fishes" (15 Step has also been played) Peter BJorn and John- "Young Folks" Spoon- "Don't You Evah" (there's a lot of songs that could slot in here) Amy Winehouse- "You Know I'm No Good" The Kills- "Cheap and Cheerful" Scissor Sisters- "Take Your Mama" Kept it to the 00-10s decade. There's a lot of "pop" music that I'd include but I'm picturing what kind of bar with a jukebox you're targeting and leaving it be. There's probably some other stuff but honestly if you put more than like 3 songs at a time on the jukebox I'm not sure I wanna hang out with you (unless it's the aforementioned "boys are back in town", play that on every jukebox everywhere always, then, now, forever.) The song you play when the bar is closing and you need everyone to go home is Antony & The Johnsons "Hope There's Someone".

Oh and this would absolutely be Foxygen's niche too. "San Francisco" for sure, tho I always liked "No Destruction" more.

"San Francisco" for sure, tho I always liked "No Destruction" more. -- UMO has some huge vibey songs that must be big with the kids cuz they have 100 million+ streams ("Honeybee" and "So Good at Being In Trouble") -- Toro y Moi keeps getting bigger and bigger. I'm not a big fan, but I'd bet they have something that fits this prompt. -- Does everyone hate Whitney now? B/c "Golden Days" would sound great from a jukebox. -- Waxahatchee - "Can't Do Much" -- Big Thief - "Masterpiece" Idk I might just be picking songs I like now

Edit- when I "DJ'd" college parties the end/get outta here song was Semisonic's "Closing Time" mine was "don't leave me this way." i'd mix it in during the bridge. then dimitri from paris put out a remix that did it better than i could've ever, so i just played that one straight.
