Chag Pesach to all those who celebrate!
One Jewish stepchild is with her father for the first night of Passover and the other is away at school. We will host a second night seder tomorrow with one of Mrs. Doso’s friends whose mother (RIP) has welcomed us to her home for Passover many times in the past.
I browned the brisket and created the sautéed onion braise earlier this afternoon. The beastie is now sealed and braising in the oven for a few more hours before resting overnight.

Celebrating Pesach in Israel for the first time this year. My mom came with us, which is her first time here for Pesach in 44 years. It was also my father's first time meeting my son, along with the rest of his side of the family (he's one of 11 brothers and sisters). Needless to say, special doesn't begin to describe this Passover for us.

Chag Pesach y’all!
The children are all elsewhere. Mrs. Doso’s good friend who we have spent most of the past 13 Passovers with asked if we could do a seder together. But it just so happens that Mrs. Doso’s all-time favorite restaurant is reopening tonight under new management after being closed for the winter (for the first time ever), so she suggested a “MexiSeder”.
I’m also too damn tired to cook. Which is all to say: Have an extra bite of brisket for Ol’ Doso tonight.

Thanks and likewise! We were supposed to be doing the first night at my in-laws in Wisconsin, and then seeing Alvvays in Milwaukee tonight, but unfortunately we got into a car accident yesterday just as we were hitting the road. Everyone is okay but the car is not driveable, and we weren't able to pick up the rental until late afternoon today so all of those plans have been scuttled. Doing night 2 in Skokie tomorrow at my mom's, hopefully that trek is less eventful.

I’m also too damn tired to cook. Which is all to say: Have an extra bite of brisket for Ol’ Doso tonight. Gonna need the deets on this Alma (corner of Columbia and Degraw). In addition to the cuisine, the big draw is their roof deck which offer a spectacular view of lower Manhattan. Mrs. Doso particularly appreciates a) their frozen margaritas, b) the fact that they offer sides of refried beans rather than black beans, and c) it’s mostly a straightforward Mexican menu - tamales, chilaquiles, enchiladas, tacos, etc. I’m most fond of their cocktails and short rib enchiladas. Over the past decade-plus we have spent most New Year’s Eves, Mother’s Days and Mrs. Doso’s birthdays there. The pre-COVID staff came to know us pretty well and they peeled off to start their own restaurant in Park Slope, Casa Azul (which is also very good). It was an incredibly pleasant surprise to see them there last night and to learn that they are the new owners. They’re still working out some service kinks, of course, but last night the place seemed to be packed with mostly friends and family and the food was just as good as ever.
