It's bugging me that I can't remember what bar I always saw him in - tamale guy is the reason I carry cash. Thank you, tamale guy. Map Room? That's where I've seen him most by far. He stops by Green Lady and Cody's every night without fail.

One of the great things about shows at the Bottle is they let some random dude in to sell tamales almost every night around the time the headliners are finally on. It's "the tamale guy". He hits up every bar that doesn't sell food, pretty much every night (it's actually a network of several guys, but they are collectively known as "the tamale guy"). He's like Santa, but with tamales. glad to see someone is putting respect on tamale guy's name. "random dude" smh.

Cardi B played Des Moines last night. Showed up two hours late, played for 35 minutes, the stage show is fucking awful, and called Iowa a city.
She sucks

Consider this the pared-down companion to my UFOF post in the Albums thread. But - I saw Big Thief's album release show at Elsewhere last night! It's my fourth time seeing them (fifth, if you count Adrianne's solo show in February), and they just keep getting better as a live act! Seriously, each time I see them is a better show than the (invariably incredible) time before. They just fire on all cylinders and even continue to add wild Crazy Horse-style jams to a number of their tracks. The show opened with "Magic Dealer" and then stayed mostly with older songs for a while. There was a stretch of Masterpiece -> Shark Smile -> Not -> Mary -> Mythological Beauty that I'm pretty sure was designed to kill me. Also, two great and loud jammy new songs. Then they backloaded the setlist with UFOF tracks, which were excellent, particularly Adrianne's solo take on "Orange" and the full-band version of "Contact" (the screams! Wow!)
Only got about half the new album, as they said they're still practicing some others. I'll def be at one of their October NYC shows - and y'all ought to see them too!

She’s great, even tho her new record fell victim to the frustrating tendency that’s popular rn of writing a verse and a chorus then stopping the song at under two minutes. Hoping for a longer, more fleshed out LP soon, because she has one of the best voices in the game.

Just Like Heaven fest was pretty fun. It was a little bit cramped but it wasn't terrible in that regard. Great weather, right on the water which was cool. I got in a bit late
Grizzly Bear was ok...they sounded fine but it kind of almost feels like they don't care anymore. Iunno. I've only seen fest sets, maybe a venue set would be better
MGMT I watched from afar. They sounded ok but not great. The hits were fun and some of the new album stuff was really cool
The Rapture fucking ruled, oh man. I loved that set so much. I've never seen them, really wanted to back in like 2011 but it didn't work out, and I was pretty sad when they called it quits. This set has everything I'd want for an hour set, Luke sounded great, and the band was on point (besides fucking up the start of one song and having to restart it saying "that's what'll happen when you don't play for 7 years, but that was just kind of funny). Hope they do a proper tour because I want to see them in a venue
Yeah Yeah Yeahs also ruled and were fun. I had never seen them and always wanted to. Wish they had longer than an hour but I enjoyed it. Lot of energy.
Fourth time seeing Phoenix on the Ti Amo tour. And still a ton of fun. They sound so good and with an hour set there was no down points at all. Also J-Boy to Lasso to Entertainment to Lizstomania is the best way to start a set ever (that being said they did that same start all four times, but it never got less fun). I wanted more "It's Never Been Like that" songs but I feel like that every set and this was only an hour. Also I feel like I have a big appreciation for Wolfgang that grows every time I see them. Literally every song on that album rips live and gets a crowd reaction like it's a big single

i wish it was a band i could be more upset about missing, it would almost justify my defeated feeling more
i just still can't get over how much money was blown to hang in denver to catch that show, and then me trying to at least catch it here just to have seen it, and getting fucked both times - all for the 1975

“a fan who couldn’t make it to our show, once due to traffic, once due to rain” could very well be an album title of theirs

I really thought they brought it, and played some really interesting arrangements. GB were probably my second favorite set of the day, behind The Rapture, who were fabulous, as you said.

FEELS were awesome last night, they ripped. Everyone who liked their album should definitely check them out next time they are around.
A good new local band called Brass Calf opened, they were really great. Not sure who to compare them to, some fairly complex guitar lines, somewhat shoegaze-ish.
I stayed for a bit of Winter, they were okay, but I was pretty beat and not into it by that point. Their ep from this year is worth a listen.

hey irvred the psychedelic furs were really good last night. played about an hour and a half and sounded great. richard butler's voice i don't think really ages - he seems to have that voice that was already a little rough around the edges. the band was really tight, and it was a nice mix of songs. i probably didn't know half of them but the set had a nice flow to it. richard butler is a good frontman - always moving around and playing to the crowd. you really wouldn't know they've been a band that's been around 40 years. they seemed really happy to still be playing live.
