L Pastor has the best fish tacos. Traspasada at Belmont/Elston is very good, too, although their best is the octopus.

It’s probably my favorite taco in the city. I just looked up that spot and it’s only about a mile from apt. Gonna hit it up this week

Traspasada at Belmont/Elston is very good, too when I worked at an office across the street between 2008 and 2010 (the office is no longer there), I would get food from there once a day, either for lunch or dinner, depending on what was going on at work. best mexican restaurant in the midwest.

When I went to Bonaire last year, we ate at a place called Sebastian's one night and I had Octopus Spaghetti. It was delicious.

well that was honestly one of the most brutally violent shows I've ever been. all 4 bands fucking destroyed the place
also the ticket/line thing was a mess but it sounds like everyone got in

We went to Tony's Burrito Mex after the show last night. Excellent tacos, as always.

Open Air was a mess yesterday but the actual sets were all good. The sound was oddly bad on the floor though. Sounded much better from the seats for some reason. And those tiny little video screen they have are a joke. I know they flooded the house with free or deeply discounted tickets but the number of people who eventually showed up shows a need for this festival. Somebody who knows how to run a festival needs to fill this space when DWP eventually dives up or bankrupts themselves.

Uhhhh Refused got rained out at Sonic Temple... so they just played a surprise show at this bar right by my apartment. $10 door and all proceeds went to some pro-choice organization. It was fucking wild and genuinely life affirming and something I would never expect in Columbus, Ohio. They were so fucking good live.

If it's 11:00 or later, the bar to clear for tacos to be "exactly what I wanted" are v. v. low.

The holly Herndon gig was so sick last night. She had three vocalists alongside herself plus her guy doing programming. Several of the songs from the new album sounded huge and the others had cool a capella arrangements for the vocalists. She had us do a sing back singalong too to help train the baby ai. When she dropped chorus from the last album and fade from her first they went so hard Thalia hall was a club.

That sounds awesome. Weyes Blood was great at Lincoln Hall last night.

Yeah, the Herndon show was good. Although she and the singers pretty much just stood in place for most of the show, not the most dynamic show visually.
Pretty surprised there was barely 100 people there last night, I would guess.

That sounds awesome. Weyes Blood was great at Lincoln Hall last night. Something that I’ve been waffling on lately - is it pronounced “WISE Blood” or “WAYS Blood” or some other variation?

I could be wrong, but I believe its Weyes Blood as an intentional play on "Wise Blood" I've been pronouncing it WAYS Blood, because that's the way I heard Julian Casablancas say it on the radio. He could be wrong though too I suppose.

Saw the Hives & Refused the other night. I had never listened to Refused before the bartender at High Dive played a few tunes for me after hearing I was going to see them. They were a fucking blast. That drummer is so intense. I have no idea how he keeps the energy up. Also, I think they made a comment that he isn't their usual drummer, which was even more impressive.
The Hives were exactly what you'd expect out of a Hives show. Hadn't seen them since high school, it was fun.
Back to the Vic for Jim James tonight!

FloMo was amazing as usual. She changed the set a bit for Chicago, which made it feel a little special. Terrible crowd, would not STFU, but that wasn't surprising.

The white people were losing their damn minds at the Local Natives show last night... The bro in front of me was going to tear the place apart during Sun Hands...
Set was pretty good as usual though. Some pretty odd setlist choices, especially towards the end, but it was good. Middle Kids were okay, still a little blah live, I hope they can find a way to liven up their sets a bit.

Really enjoyed the Local Natives set. New stuff comes across well, lots of Hummingbird tracks, sounded great. The crowd was very odd, though. Felt like being at a major festival, but indoors. Weird feeling. I wish somebody would post the setlist so I could figure out what the first 2-3 songs I missed were.

the PUP show fuckin ruled last night. such a fun band and a great crowd.
ratboys were also awesome as usual. sounded like a real big rock band, played several new songs. guessing their album must be coming out in the summer or fall since they were referencing track numbers and such.

Would be quite bummed if I missed that one.

ended up at Bloodyminded/Aseethe at Sleeping Village on saturday. (after seeing the Judas Priest setlist and deciding it wasn't even worth $20)
SV is a great venue! really excited for more shows there. Aseethe were fine but only played like 3 songs and it was all from the new album which i havent had enough time with yet. felt kinda slow compared to their other shows. Bloodyminded is a riot -- they play 30 songs, all of which are like 6 second samples from their recorded stuff, and just make it a disgusting mess of feedback and screaming. it kinda becomes a game of how loud they can get and how over the top the crowd can react to it.
Church of Misery at the bottle sunday ruled. they played a solid 90 minute set and had everyone going off. also Mondo Generator (Nick Oliveri's band) opened and their entire setlist was just old QotSA and Kyuss songs. so that was really fun.
