Church of Misery at the bottle sunday ruled. they played a solid 90 minute set and had everyone going off. also Mondo Generator (Nick Oliveri's band) opened and their entire setlist was just old QotSA and Kyuss songs. so that was really fun. yeah when i saw you went to church of misery it reminded me they're coming to okc so i checked for tix and it's when i'll be out of town. but i'll be out of town seeing earth, so that's ok ;–) i saw mondo generator at lolla '03 when they played an afternoon set then nick played with qotsa that night on mainstage. iirc, brant bjork and dave catching were in that version of mondo.

Missed so many great shows being out of town this weekend. Particularly gutted by the Full of Hell/Genocide Pact/Hate Force show that was here.

I just saw that bill here on Saturday - they also had Primitive Man. It had been a while since I got my ass kicked in a mosh pit. Was a good show.

Yeah, I was mostly interested in Genocide Pact and Hate Force since I haven’t seen either. Glad to hear it was good.

Operators were of course great last night. Pretty much played everything off the new album, and maybe 4 or 5 older songs. They had a little rust to shake off, since it was their first show in a while, which meant it was the first time most of the new songs were played live for the first time. Pretty decent crowd that wasn't dancing much, and of course there had to be one guy who had to make a comment between every damn song.

I am a very stupid person and put down that show for tonight on my calendar instead of last night. Really bummed

i was pleasantly surprised with how long they played. some of the new songs did nothing for me live, but there were a few that sounded way better than on the album.
from my angle and in that low light, dan looked like javier bardem.

Can't imagine the board is too enthusiastic about it, but the Snake Pit on Sunday at the Indy 500 was way too much fun. 30,000 people losing it to cheesy EDM at like 8am in the middle of a stadium filling with over 300,000 people is insane. Weather was great, the fact you can take your own drinks in is so strange but also amazing, and the stage production was huge. And then to have the race going on around you while Alesso / Skrillex are playing is just surreal.
For the music side of things I honestly didn't hate Alesso's set, it's the kind of music I could probably run to, and Skrillex was ... Skrillex. Illenium was kinda fun too. I'm not going to make a habit of going to EDM fests after this, but a few hours of coming and going from the Pit, broken up by heading back to my friends' tailgate and watching the race from the infield was a really fun day.

I have some college friends that go traditionally (and went this year), and they say the Snake Pit is whatever fun you make it. They tend to make it lots of fun.

lemonheads were just ok last night. never seen them before so not sure if it's normal, but evan dando seemed very distracted by technical issues with his amps the first half hour or so and if it wasn't that then he just seemed disinterested. they only played 1hr 5min and no encore. it was fine, but felt like he wasn't invested. loved tommy stinson's opening set. he played the first 20 minutes in the audience on the venue floor with no mic and an acoustic guitar. there were only 200 people there, so that helped. said he loved how the place sounded so he wanted to take advantage of it. he played 50 minutes and played a telecaster just on the last song.

Laura Stevenson was very good last night. Unfortunately, the crowd wasn't. We ended up standing next to her sister, who talked loudly through the whole show with her friends, and the in between-song comments were terrible. It was a shame cuz her set was really well planned out and paced, and they sounded great.

I was stuck a few people back behind the guy who had to make a comment between every song. He was annoying the hell out of me, I ended up leaving early.

Yeah, we left after about an hour. I didn't think she'd play for much longer than that anyway, so I didn't feel too badly about it.

dang i thought the show was really good, the new songs sounded great live. she's a great performer. i was in the back and stepped a few feet into the crowd to drown out the bar noise.

I was really into the show, but the assholery of the crowd was very grating. I'd see her again in the hopes of a better crowd.

I feel like crowds for quiet* shows are always terrible *I have never listened to Laura Stevenson (have had the album saved for a month!) but I assume based on reports she's a quiet act
