Two reviews coming at'cha today! First up, Titus Andronicus album release show at Rough Trade. This'll be short and sweet - Titus the four piece rock band ripped as usual. Only played about half of the new record tho, most of which I heard back at the Market Hotel Show last year and opening for Bob Mould in February. Still crushed tho and with a much bigger audience response now that they're officially released. Pat definitely favors the songs in his catalogue that provide for more guitar heroics and I'm all for that. Got a great mix from all his albums, but the highlight was the run of Ecce Homo > Hot Deuce > Upon Viewing Oregon's Landscape - which I'd not seen all together before. My 7th t@ show - will probably be back for an 8th in October!
Ryley Walker opened, and he sounded great. Played "Roundabout" and "The Halfwit In Me" as well as a cover of "If I Were A Carpenter" - had A+ banter as usual, even tho a dude in the audience was being rude during it at one time. Ryley shut him down with the profiency of a seasoned comedian lol.

helms alee ruled last night. earth was good but pretty much just played the whole new album, which the crowd was pretty lukewarm on, then cut their second half of old songs short for some reason so it was an abrupt stop. also dylan retunes his guitar in between every song and it takes a good 3-4 minutes so there was a LOT of awkward silence throughout the evening setlist looks same as when i saw them in dallas (but different order and i got bees made honey and not old black), but dylan kept it quick between songs so there wasn't much of a lull. i loved that show but it was my first time seeing those magical songs come to life 2 feet in front of me, so i was a little starry-eyed ;–) and i talked to dylan after the show and he was the nicest fella. and yes, helms alee are fantastic live.

Second review was of Dead & Co. last night at Citi Field! It was my first Dead-adjacent show and my most anticipated concert in ages. And the music itself absolutely delivered. LOVED the setlist, especially the versions of Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain and the closing combo of Morning Dew > Brokedown Palace. Lots of wine beforehand, lots of dancing during, and really one of my favorite concert experiences in a long time.
BUT for the bad. I saw the show with my best friend from college - he's huge into the Dead, flew up for the weekend and we went all around NYC and to the show together. That's not the bad, that was awesome. But... we had the single-most wack Ticketmaster experience of my life. He bought the tickets (two GA) for face value from the Ticketmaster official page. TM then mailed him the physical copies in an envelope, which we opened on the train to the show, and everything seemed normal. Then we waited in the 45-minute or so line to get through security and our tickets scanned "invalid" - we were confused and they told us to try another gate. So we waited in line for another 15-20 minutes and the same thing happened there.
By now the show had started, we can hear "St. Stephen" from outside the stadium. They tell us to try customer service at the rotunda. So we sprint halfway around Citi Field, and talk to customer service. They tell us that "we" had sold our tickets on TM's resale site back in APRIL - supposedly five days after we bought the tickets. This, of course, is absurd. My friend had no record of such a transaction, the tickets were still in his account, no money had been transferred to his linked bank account, and TM still sent us the paper tickets and a "get ready for the show!" email just last week. We went back and forth with customer service for literally another 30 minutes. They had us calling their help line - which was closed for the evening. And we just kept coming back telling them our story, showing them our receipts, etc. Finally the employee who'd been dealing with us on-and-off from the beginning just slipped us two lower bowl tickets through the window for free.
We sprinted inside and realized we'd missed the first five songs - about 45-minutes of the show. And now were watching from the bowl, instead of the field tickets we each spent $170 or so on. My friend'll be emailing TM today, and we'll be pissed if we don't get a refund. Shit was ridiculous, still don't really know what happened. But - all in all - we may have gotten to see 2/3 of a Dead show for "free" and what we saw was still amazing, and the seats were still pretty great all things considered.
Sorry for the word-vomit there. Just needed to get it all out.

Yo La Tengo was fantastic last night. I'm more of a fan of the noisy/raucous YLT stuff, and the first hour of the set was much more of the quiet/mellower stuff, but it was still perfect. Second half of the night was more of a mix of the louder stuff too, along with some of the classics like Autumn Sweater and False Alarm. One of the highlights was when they had Rick from Eleventh Dream Day join them for a cover of "Heroin" that went on for almost 15 minutes, with a great guitar battle between Ira and Rick. They played for about 2 hours and 45 minutes, with a 10 minute break in there.

... our tickets scanned "invalid" - we were confused ... They tell us that "we" had sold our tickets ... This, of course, is absurd. this sort of happened to my friend and i on a MUCH smaller scale the other night at sleeping village. the woman at the door said "these have already been scanned." my friend's like "what are you talking about? i just walked in two minutes ago." after a couple minutes she just let us in.

Let us know what TM tells your friend monastery, curious as to whether or not they'll offer anything to make it up.
I had a similar experience at one of the UC Pumpkins shows last summer, except after I proved to the box office people I was who I said I was, and that I hadn't sold the tickets, they just reissued me the exact same seats on the spot.

There were new barcodes or whatever, but yes it was very odd. At first I thought my seats were being upgraded, because that has happened to me before as well, but that was not the case in this instance.

Will do! Haven’t heard anything back from TM yet, but I think he’s in touch with his card company too. Gonna call him today and see what’s up with TM, I’d assume we’d at least get a refund since they put us in different seats, but who knows ugh.

How long ago did y'all buy them? You can always dispute the charge through the CC company if it was recent enough (three months, I think?)

Bought them at the end of April, and I think that's what my friend is in the process of doing - he said today that they're "investigating" it and we'd hear back within the week. *fingers crossed*

So my sister was in the pit at the Stones show last night. She was surprisingly close to the stage. My not so hot take is that it sounded just ok. The band sounded good, but Mick's vocals came across more as shouting and the backing singers sounded off key/flat.
The visuals looked amazing though.

The National set last night was absolutely amazing. I don't know what else to say. Of the 7 times I've seen them (including their Homecoming fest last year) that was the best. Closing on American Mary was the most unexpected surprise and something I'll remember for a long time.

Saw Kacey Musgraves at Red Rocks last night. It was my 6yo's first "big" concert (he saw the local School of Rock perform once). He had a good time even he though was really struggling to stay awake the last thirty minutes. The weather was ideal and that helped a lot. She brought her husband out for a song they wrote based on (IIRC) a poem Johnny Cash penned for June Carter. It was really lovely and probably the highlight. We left a bit early and as we were walking out she started playing a cover of "Do You Realize" that sounded pretty nice too. Overall I enjoyed it but I've seen her three times this year now so I am ready for a break I think.

Caught a free street fest performance by K-OS. Was awesome. He played 2 of my faves from Atlantis (a favorite album of mine) including Electrik Heat -The Seekwill and Sunday Morning. Also the Natalie Portman song and Crabbuckit. Was a ton of fun and he was playing only to a couple hundred people. A great unexpected surprise.

Just caught a perfectly maniacal show by the Uranium Club at the Brooklyn Bazaar. Best way to describe them is a mix of early DEVO with early Parquet Courts - and then even a bit stranger with even more nervous energy? They only have three records, and each are EP length. Give em a shot if that sounds intriguing and def see them if they ever come to your area. Was an incredibly tight and fun show.

I saw Shawn Mendes last night with my gf courtesy of Verizon. The VIP area we sat in was great -- super fun setlist. If anyone wants a free Shawn Mendes tour hat or poster, let me know. It came with my ticket and I don't want it.

Young Guv were some pretty solid power pop in the vein of Teenage Fanclub. I feel like ten15 would dig them.
Tony Molina was pretty dang fantastic for a guy that either doesn't know how to or just plain refuses to write a bridge. If you like the Mats, the Byrds, Dino Jr, Queen, and one verse and one chorus with some Thin Lizzy close harmony guitar solos he's your guy.
It's been a while since I saw a set and thought "oh shit, this is dangerous" so thank you for that Culture Abuse.
