brent talked a bit at the champaign show in '10 but not a lot. he also played with black lips at the empty bottle after the masto show lol
i honestly can never tell with him cause he's always so goofy, drunk or sober. but he did sound tight and his voice was better than usual.

Mother. Fucking. Father John Misty. I didn't think he could possibly improve from when I saw him last year but dammit if he wasn't incredible as always. The new tracks really benefit from being played live, and I was someone who was a pretty big fan of the new album.

To echo Wretched and Bosmas sentiments, FJM was phenomenal last night. The Chicago Theater was the perfect venue to debut the new music in Chicago, and his (much larger) backing band was really tight. He played exactly two hours (8:40-10:40), and paced the setlist very well. The banter seems to be gone, although he improvised a bit during a few minor technical difficulties.
Overall great show, go see this tour if you get the chance.

I was expecting a great show from FJM after watching the Coachella set, but that completely blew me away. The guy is such a natural performer. His dance moves are absolutely ridiculous and amazing at the same time. He stuck around for about 10 minutes after his set and took pictures/chatted with fans in front of the stage - and looked genuinely thrilled to be doing it. I will definitely be searching for a ticket for his show in the fall.

You definitely did. They were fairly inoffensive but really nothing to write home about. Where were you guys sitting? I was on mainfloor KK

mookie , how were the Besnard Lakes? They were excellent as usual. They go all out with the lights and fogs for a band that plays tiny venues. Loud as hell as expected too. It was the end of a tour with Chicago's Life and Times, so they had them join them for the last song of the night. Be ready for a long night, they played for an hour and a half, show didn't end til 1 AM. I posted in the bands thread too, they had a great new Chicago band called Aurora L'Orealis open too, very shoegaze-y, also loud as hell too. Definitely worth seeing.

Fantastic, though sadly, we've got a completely new set of openers, both local.
Definitely will not forget the earplugs.

The Night Josh Tillman Broke His Nose With The Microphone
But yeah, very good show. His antics/dance moves more closely aligned with what he was doing on the Fear Fun tours, which are still a blast. I thought the setlist was great and the use of the lights/video was excellent, too.
Also I got a signed copy of the new record. Woot.

To be fair, there aren't tons of horrible seats in the Chicago theater considering its size. I saw Sufjan from the back row of the back balcony a couple years ago and it was still pretty awesome. Glad everyone had fun though! I thought it was a blast, and I can't wait to see him again. Definitely considering tickets for his auditorium theater show.

Oh, and Dams of the West weren't that bad. I feel like we were fortunate that his vocals were almost (intentionally?) indecipherable, but his backing band was really good and the songs were pleasant. I was expecting it to be one of the worst things I've ever seen, and although his writing may be brutal, the songs themselves are pleasant enough.

big surprise.....go see U2 If I'm not a huge U2 fan overall but enjoy Joshua Tree as an album would I still get into this show? I've been debating it The two setlists so far have been lean as far as filler goes. They play one brand new song but besides that it's Joshua Tree + old hits. I bought tickets on the strength of the album set alone but these setlists have gotten me hyped.

Shining was pretty tame compared to what i expected but sounded cool my and my big mouth; Portland, Oregon venue The Tonic Lounge have pulled the plug on tomorrow’s previously planned Shining show. This comes as a result of vocalist Niklas Kvarforth‘s alleged behavior at a bar and show a few nights prior. Tonic Lounge shared the following statement on the matter:
“Tonic Lounge has decided to cancel the Shining show that was scheduled for this Wednesday, May 17th.
All tickets will be refunded.
We regret having not researched this band more before approving their show. After booking them, it was brought to our attention that Shining’s singer has done and said many things that could be considered offensive, dangerous, or destructive. While we were learning about and considering these issues, the list continued to grow, including a recent report that the he may have been involved in the drugging of someone’s drink.
This morning we received a call from a trusted friend in Boise Idaho, detailing the events that took place while Shining were there on Sunday. We were told that the singer of Shining went to the local punk bar Mulligans before their concert, and was groping women and threatening to stab employees, and had to be removed.
We were also told that later, while performing at The Shredder, he used many blatant racist and homophobic slurs on stage, threatened audience members with rape, slapped audience members in the face, and was sieg heil saluting repeatedly throughout their performance.
Sometimes words and allegations on the internet can be difficult to navigate, but a story like this coming from a friend is not. The above types of behavior are simply not acceptable at Tonic Lounge. This isn’t about censorship. This is about protecting our venue, our staff, and our patrons.
This decision was not made under pressure by any individuals or political groups. We believe in freedom of expression and are not quick to pull the plug on any band booked at our club. However, we are not going to invite someone into our space to spout hate speech on our stage, and/or put our staff and patrons in harm’s way.
We are still in full support of Famine Fest Presents, the other bands who were on the bill, and all of our friends and customers who planned on attending. We hope you all can respect our decision to do what’s best for our club and those within it.”
