I want to see Besnard Lakes so bad

mookie , how were the Besnard Lakes? They were excellent as usual. They go all out with the lights and fogs for a band that plays tiny venues. Loud as hell as expected too. It was the end of a tour with Chicago's Life and Times, so they had them join them for the last song of the night. Be ready for a long night, they played for an hour and a half, show didn't end til 1 AM. No fog, unfortunately, but aside from that and the miniscule crowd, it was a fantastic show. Incredibly pleased with what I heard.

It was the last night of their tour, maybe they didn't want to cross customs with it.

arbee I'm assuming you've seen them multiple times... Where would this rank amongst the previous tours? this was my 11th time...this was as good as any of the recent tours that i have seen...the visuals are stunning! Can't wait to see them on this tour. Hoping to improve our seats, though.

We went to the Metallica show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday night. I'm not a huge fan (in fact, I fell asleep for a few songs during their Lollapalooza set after a very exhausting day), but Mrs. DoSo is and I promised her we'd get some nice seats after we decided against getting tickets when they played Global Citizen Fest last year.
I was dreading going to MetLife Stadium a little bit - we saw Springsteen there last summer and it was such a shitshow trying to get into the parking lot. On Sunday, however, the line of cars was only four or five deep and we basically zipped right in. Even better: knowing that they'd end with "Enter Sandman", we got a jump on the exit and we were pulling out of the lot while most people were still walking to their cars. Show ended at 11:07pm and we were in front of our building in Brooklyn before midnight.
The show itself was excellent and completely stadium-worthy. I flipped out over the pryo, in particular. There was also a lengthy fireworks display at the end. Their set was very similar to the first two nights - plenty of hits and not a lot of deep cuts (as far as I could tell). No complaints from this casual fan. I loved Kirk's guitar playing, though his duet with Trujillo was pretty dumb. So was the four-man "drum solo".
Best of all, we had baller seats. Like most of us, I've had my fair share of criticism about Ticketmaster over the years. So I have to give them some praise here for their exchange policy. We had decent 200-level seats that I would have ultimately been completely happy with. But nevertheless, I was on the computer Sunday morning seeing what was available. When I saw four seats in the front row of section 111A on the side of the stage, I called customer service. Had to wait on hold for 15-20 minutes, but they did the exchange without any hassle (despite the website saying exchanges couldn't be made the week before the show). For $20 extra per ticket (plus a $5 per ticket exchange fee), the upgrade was stupendous. We were so damn close - basically on the far right rail, but with an actual seat. It was so nice to see a show in a stadium where a) I didn't notice the difference between the speed of light and the speed of sound and b) I wasn't constantly watching the giant video screens, but rather watching the actual performers.

Midnight Oil was a lot of fun tonight. Lots of energy and really amazing how good they sound together after such a long break from playing live.
The setlist was unique. Afterwards, I realized that they played 10, 9, 8, 7...in its entirety. Kind of cool, because I love that album, but, could have done without a few of them. Set was heavily backloaded and the last 30 minutes ripped. Mrs ten15 was disappointed they didn't play "King of the Mountain", but we got "Forgotten Years". Hung with pale hose and audiobully. Sound wasn't bad, crowd was ok, if old. And Peter Garrett still has the dance moves. Overall, fun time.

Bash & Pop at The Bell House last night. To my great surprise, they took the stage with former Vice Presidential candidate Senator Tim Kaine on harmonica. Tommy said a few words alluding to the Trump administration and Chris Cornell's death and then they played "This Land Is Your Land". Tommy clearly did not know the lyrics, even botching the chorus that we all sang in grade school. He had a handful of lyric sheets and he kept asking Kaine to take a harmonica solo. Jesse Malin was also on stage and sang a verse. After that, the regular set began with the first two songs from the new album, followed by an unexpected "Makes Me Happy" from the Perfect EP. From there, the set became more raucous and unpredictable. Tommy invited his ex-manager Diane to sing backup on the next song. Then a gentleman appeared from backstage with a lap steel expecting to sit in with the band and that was followed by a good 45-60 seconds of confusion and negotiation about whether or not he would play. He eventually sat down and played along (buried in the mix). What I did hear did not resemble anything close to melodic lap steel. It was more akin to simply making fun sliding noises. Tommy described the gentleman as a former in-law and seemed happy to have him, so he remained on stage for most of the set. The band played six or seven tunes from the new album, the Perfect song, a song from a Tommy Stinson solo record and at least a couple of covers including a blistering version of "The Kids Are Alright" and Big Star's "Nightime" (which seemed like an odd choice, but also a little sad). Towards the end, Tommy's guitar gave out, so he handed it to the lap steel gentleman, grabbed the mic and jumped down onto the floor to sing amongst the audience. Surprisingly, no songs from the original Bash & Pop record ( Friday Night Is Killing Me) were played, unlike their show in Chicago earlier this year when they included "Fast & Hard", "Tiny Pieces", "First Steps" and the title track in the set list. In retrospect the omissions fit in with the overall uncertainty and spontaneity of the evening. I was thrilled to find Sen. Kaine hanging out in the crowd as the house lights came up and enjoyed a somewhat bro-ish handshake with him before heading out. The second opener was the Jake Loewenstein Band (the guitarist in Sebadoh who isn't Lou Barlow). Didn't like them very much at first, but they got better as the set progressed. They were working hard, which I always appreciate. Loewenstein's guitar seemed purposely slightly out of tune which I suppose makes sense given his penchant for off-kilter melodies and chord inversions. Caught the last song from first opener Bird of Youth - they need someone to step up as a musical director and tell band members to come up with something more interesting than wailing on the same chord as everyone else. Or just lose a guitarist and maybe the keyboard.

I saw Vancouver Sleep Clinic at Subterranean last night.
Really good show, and really promising live performance since they were so much better live than on record.

So last night was supposed to be DJ McFly, Juvenile, and Nelly all on the Peoria riverfront. Clearly I thought "Well shit, I have to buy tickets to this because it's gonna be fascinating." A bunch of my friends were going and I figured it was gonna be a pretty good time. So the show was supposed to start around 8. We got there at 8:45, and DJ McFly was still playing. It was also packed. I have never seen a non-July 4th event so jam packed in Peoria. So DJ Purgatory just keeps playing and playing. Pretty soon it's like 9:30 or so and there's rumors going around that Nelly and Juvenile both totally bailed and are sitting in the airport in Chicago trying to get the fuck out of there. So naturally, people are getting incredibly drunk and now they're getting pissed off. Like where the fuck are Nelly and Juvenile? So some pretty major fights start to break out and pretty soon the police have to have a pretty strong presence in the place. People are posting in the facebook group asking what the hell is happening and NO ONE knows or will tell us. So around 10:45, DJ Shitshow stops playing. Someone lets us know what he has been playing since 6:30 PM. They clearly told him to stall and his version of that was to yell at angry angry people to put their hands up. So we got about 20 minutes of silence on the stage and then Nelly appeared out of nowhere, played for less than an hour, most of which was him talking or bringing fans on the stage. About 10 minutes before his set ended, there was a message posted by the booking group that just said that Juvenile wasn't gonna be there and Nelly would be late. People were losing their minds, there was almost a riot. There were tears. People paid 75-100 dollars for a VIP ticket which got them nothing but a spot to stand a little bit closer to the stage.
This is why Peoria can't have nice things.

Classic Peoria...
Oddisee was pretty fantastic at LH last night. He has a really great backing band, and he's a solid performer himself.

That Oddisee set was my favorite show of the year so far. He's an incredible live performer, his band is tight as hell, and they played for almost 90 minutes straight without any sort of letdown in energy. So much fun.

Project Pabst was fun yesterday. I hope it becomes an annual thing in Denver. Weather was great and the beer was cheap.
Highlights:
Twin Peaks Phantogram (they would be consistently enjoyable if the guy would stop insisting on singing) Deap Valley The Other Black Strfkr Danny Brown Kurt Vile
The Other Black are on the verge of breaking out. Would love to see it, too. Wes Watkins has been through a ton and would love to see him take off.
Only negative was Noname didn't show up, and there was really no advance warning that she'd miss her set, so they filled the slot with a really awful local band. So many confused people at that stage.

Call me easy, but I've always given the Phantogram guy a soft pass because, if nothing else, he's nowhere near as shitty as that Chvrches guy.

You didn't see Summer Cannibals? They didn't play a main stage, unfortunately. Would have had to miss Danny Brown to get a spot in the venue they played.

On Friday night, I was going to buy a ticket for Amon Amarth at the door. But when I got to the venue, there was a line and the show was sold out! I was very surprised, considering the other metal shows I had been to in Columbia (Carcass and Deafheaven, Cannibal Corpse), were not sold out. I had no idea they had that big of a following.
I did, however, see Mike Watt + the Jom and Terry Show last night, which was fun. Watt is a fun dude to watch on stage, with his energy and facial expressions.

I saw Pallbearer in Oakland Friday night. They were appropriately stoney and also surprisingly tall offstage.
Gatecreeper opened and were so much fun. One of my friends who was there is more of a jam guy and he was just mesmerized by them.
Misty and Phossy are playing at the Greek on Hardly Strictly weekend so I think I need to go back out there.

Mine came out all goofy. when you quote a post and it takes you to the reply page, switch to the BBCode mode instead of Preview. it'll be the old css style code from the old board that you can copy and use for quotes. also didnt realize you'd be into gatecreeper (pallbearer obv makes sense) so im glad you dug it
