It took me at least three minutes to remember what the heck they called this vote, the caucus. That university football team is an affront to god

While I’d say Eminem is fine leaning toward bad, Iowa is fine leaning good. State politics, like many places, keep it from being good.

I spent my 22nd birthday watching Neutral Milk Hotel somewhere on the university of Iowa's campus. Field of Dreams is a good dumb fun movie. It gets a fine from me. Chuck Grassley is gonna go out like Feinstein.

I’ve never been, but I’ve always had a suspicion that Iowa is deeply underrated. Maybe this thread will answer that for me once and for all (or I’ll actually go sometime)

Gonna go with "fine"
-Des Moines is a great little city -80/35 is my favorite little fest -Fongs is a great pizza place and almost redeems the whole state -They have the nearest location to IL of my new favorite national pizza chain (Mellow Mushroom)
Only rating as "fine" since they are moving 80/35 next year and it won't be in their downtown

I voted good. Iowa sets in the trapper keeper: Townes Van Zandt, Charlie Daniels Band, Arlo Guthrie, The Jayhawks, Bruce Hornsby, Ringo Starr, Lyle Lovett, The Highwaymen, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Yakov Smirnoff.

I could see myself living in Dubuque Iowa before I could see myself living in Phoenix Arizona if that counts for anything

First state to legalize gay marriage has to count for something. I went to a (straight) wedding there in the early ‘90s and had an absolute blast. Iowa seems at least fine if not good.

I go to Iowa fairly often for work. In fact, I was just there last week.
I understand the appeal (low crime, good economy, low cost of living), but I would never want to live there.

Iowa is ok, haven’t spent a ton of time there. There are worse places for sure

Really the only downside of DSM is fewer entertainment opportunities (for my tastes) than surrounding bigger cities. I love it here and will probably be here my entire life.
Perfect size and always something to do.
The only bigger Midwest city is considered is KC. I would loathe living in Chicago or MN. Great places to visit though.

People are also saying Iowa is a good state for drinking in a hotel room.

Lack of diversity is a major knock against Iowa IMO. DSM probably has a more diverse population than the rest of the state, but it's still pretty awful.

In terms of skin color sure. Iowa is a pretty white state ya, but Des Moines, Iowa City, etc are all pretty well diverse.

Last time I went to IA was to Dubuque to see Low last year. Right after I got there, I found out the show had been cancelled because people from both Low and the opener had caught Covid. I never got to see Low.

I've never been to Iowa, never had anything to do with Iowa. Are we even sure Iowa exists? I haven't seen the evidence. I was going to say the potatoes before I realized that's Idaho

My freshman year at University of Iowa, we drove out to Grinnell for a Wu Tang show. WTC never showed up. We ended up hanging out in one of the dorms most of the night. I’ve never seen so much drugs.
