You can make some general assumptions about what is gonna happen when throughout this summer. But I figured we should get the conversation started. It is probably not Live and Dangerous. It could be Stop Making Sense. Previous board summer projects in 2023 and 2022, respectively. Shit Tweet's Gotta Figure Out (plz don't write here) What counts, what doesn't The Dead and Phish live catalogs (and probably some others too) Bootlegs

It's a greenfield project I feel like. Lotsa big indie bands releasing live albums recently it feels like. Could be fun.

Like any of the Dick’s Picks, but not AUD recordings of great shows that are inexplicably not officially released (Phish 8/17/97 for instance).

i have arrived to make this difficult
for your consideration:
ac/dc - if you want blood you got it ramones - its alive peter gabriel - secret world live paul mccartney - back in the us drive by truckers - its great to be alive bob marley - live at the roxy stevie wonder - natural wonder keith jarrett - the koln concert ahmad jamal - but not for you johnny cash at san quentin daft punk - alive 2007 u2 - under a blood red sky pearl jam - live on two legs / live on ten legs the cure - show
questions: -do the performances have to be from the same show? or can it be a live compilation? what's the limit on lengths of compilations? (does springsteen live 75-85 count as a 'live album'?)
-if compilations count, do all live tracks have to be by the same artist?
-do bonus discs of deluxe editions count? for example, the tragically hip's "phantom power" was recently reissued with a live show on a second disc.
-do albums that mix live and studio tracks count? eg: U2's "rattle and hum"
-i am assuming MTV unpluggeds count?
-are we really going to count Dicks Picks / Pearl Jam+Phish+Panic+etc. 'official' bootlegs? Idk where you draw the line with this stuff but Spotify doesn't even have all of that stuff that was 'officially' released. I've got a Who concert from 2005 on a nugs CD because they offered it on that tour. Does that count as a live album even though I presume none of you will ever / could've ever heard it?
-pretty much for me only: U2 released audio rips of most of their live dvd's as fan-club-only releases. can i count these. (i want to but it feels wrong)
and finally, another shameless plug for my live playlist which should have several hundred live albums to visit:

(i want to but it feels wrong) these are good questions! i think a lot of live albums are compiled from multiple shows, so i think we should allow comps. but i do consider a live album to be one where all songs were recorded at a show. if we allow official bootlegs, is that going to dilute lists and make it so like 3 votes gets something in the top 20? i really don't know if there are definitive dick's picks or if everyone's favorites vary.

I could get behind eliminating Dicks Picks / LivePhish releases just for comprehension's sake. Maybe stick to shows that were officially released as their own entity & not part of a series? This would include, for instance, the Veneta release, Cornell 5/8/77, Wake Up to Find Out, etc. in addition to the canonical live releases put out during the band / Jerry's lifetime.
