I can't be a ton of help here, but I used to see free/cheap comedy listings on this newsletter I subscribed to called theskint

can any comedyheads tell me if there's a way to look up good shows in any given city on any given night? we have thurs night free in nyc after dinner. i know how to look up music but am kinda lost on the cool comedy stuff. We went to the late show at the Comedy Cellar last time we were there and it was terrific. They have multiple shows every night so there's guaranteed to be something going on.

I second the Comedy Cellar recommendation. Good variety and you might get some random drop-in from a bigger comedian. Pretty solid chance you get some Conan/Tonight Show writers early and then a more established comedian as a "headliner."

commandeered the office radio and put on a glam rock spotify radio station.
i shouldn't do this. i fret about everyone's reactions.
"oh shit, they're gonna hate this roxy music song...phew, a david bowie song to satisfy the old guys and ease their worries."

We miss all the fun in flyover country My friend in Baltimore said he felt it too. Same dude was coming back late from a roadtrip and drove over the FSK Bridge like 2 hours before it collapsed. Stay away from Ed in Baltimore, folks.

Just felt a ~30 second earthquake in NYC. Crazy shit. Shook my whole apartment building. I must live in a fucking fog, because I was filling out some paperwork when it hit and I didn’t even look up; just assumed it was a large truck rumbling by. Granted, I was about 20-25 miles east of the city out on Long Island at the time, so about 50% further from the NJ epicenter than folks in the five boroughs.

We were talking about the eclipse in class, and one of the kids said "the next time there will be an eclipse, I'll be 38!"
My co-teacher, who is in his 60's, looked up from his computer and said "the next time there's an eclipse, I'll be dead"
I've never heard a more awkward silence.

Kurt Cobain committed suicide 30 years ago on this day.
I was on a bus on the way home from school. They had the radio on and I couldn't hear the DJ, but his tone of voice got really somber for a minute or two. When I got home, I turned on MTV and learned what had happened. Even though I didn't own any Nirvana records then - I'd become a fan later that summer - the news was still shocking.

I think I was in school when I heard, in the morning because I remember the rest of the day being weird. My friends and I had all seen Nirvana the previous October, and we didn't go to a ton of shows so it was a huge, huge deal.
*edit* Frances Bean's IG post today includes some Rolling Stone photos that were taken backstage at that show, and she mentions that was the last time she was with her dad. Seems pretty sad if that's correct, that Kurt hadn't seen her for almost six months when he died.

eclipse was neat. 94% totality in okc, temperature dropped 6 degrees in 30 minutes, had hundreds of students gathering all around on campus to watch (all wearing the giveaway glasses i designed ;–)
