Pretty crazy day today.
Eslabon Armado is playing two shows at the Allstate this weekend, and they told our school this morning they would be making a surprise appearance during one of our lunch periods and that they would play from 11:25-11:55. The plan was to keep it a secret for as long as possible so only that period's lunch students would be there, but obviously every kid in the school found out so we had like 1500 kids in a space for a few hundred.
They strummmed a few chords for like 20 seconds, threw a bunch of free tickets into the air, and left. Kids were obviously going nuts and fighting over the tickets
All told the band was probably in the building from 11:25-11:28.

There’s easily 1500 available seats in the upper deck for that show; they could’ve invited the entire student population. Check out the available seats on TM though. I’ve never seen something like this before where there are groups of two and three tickets across full rows that are separated by single “sold” (but probably not actually sold) seats. It’s almost as if they’re saying, “Buy upper level tickets to the show and you’ll have a buffer seat on either side.”

Ben Gibbard actually ran into a local high school here today and played the opening lick of "Cath" and threw 500 tickets in the air and left
Seems like a strange new trend

I was just picking up my son and Q101 was playing Smells Like Teen Spirit, and the dj then said "Another one we have to thank Steve Albini for"

Anyone seeing the Northern lights near Chicago tonight? I guess we're missing it now due to the cloud cover but it was supposed to be visible earlier. I missed it

Drove 20 minutes north of us where there was no light and could see it very clearly. That was sick

i went to a show last night that had ticket prices with all fees included, except 1€ for delivery (would've been free through some app). the confirmation email noted set times. and the venue's website lists set times for every show for the next several weeks.
the edge of the stage and the ledge in front of the soundboard had cupholders. coat check was mandatory and free. the bands were punctual. really solid experience, except for the merch booth's terrible placement in a dark corner of the music room.
the venue is also piloting a program for people self-conscious about going to shows alone being paired with gig buddies. interesting idea, will be curious to read how it plays out.

This list is largely a waste of time, but having Adele the spot ahead of Joni Mitchell made me chuckle too.
