Wow, is It really getting good reviews? I've never seen the original or read the book but the trailer for the new one looked awful. It's at a 70 on Metacritic now. And I thought the trailer looked good.

saw wind river last night. a little heavy handed, but i really liked it. there are a couple of super intense/stressful scenes. Seriously that whole 20 minute segment towards the end was rough for me.

It: I think the C on Metacritic is about right. It's not without issues, but there are certainly some really nice things going on with it.
I'm really very interested in the sequel.

seeing IT tonight. Haven't read the novel but I've seen the mini-series from the early 90s a few times. Terrified me as a child (I was 7 when it came out), watched it again in college and laughed my ass off at it. It's so bad.
This new one looks promising though.

IT was great. Mainstream non indie horror films of quality are very few and far between these days. It's not ambiguous like some and has a very easy to follow narrative that's probably very samey to many.
The real prize here tho... The acting. These kids are fantastic. Perfectly cast. Kid from Stranger Things had me rolling.
It's fun, a little gory (but rather tame compared to other King adaptations) and hilarious. I didn't find it scary, but as a horror fan it takes a lot to scare me these days. Some of the motion capturing was a little undercooked in spots but that's a minor gripe.
I'd give it a strong B+ or P4K 8.5-8.8.

I didn't dislike IT, but it was just ok for me. It's like worse Stand By Me and sometimes clowns and shit jump out to scare the kids. The cast is good and it is put together competently but it was oddly straightforward and without flair.
Also I was commenting afterward on how the one black kid has like no development as a character and my gf - a huge fan of the novel - said that they'd folded all of his skills and traits into Ben the New Kid which is very bizarre and maybe racist?

i am not really a horror fan, but a couple friends wanted to go. it was fine. the guy in front of us kept yelling "NOPE!" as if he had to make a point to everyone around him. it was about what i expected. good thing the kids were all pretty good.

Movie Pass seems like a bit of a disaster. Still haven't received my card nearly a month out, and I'm seeing tons of reports of the thing straight-up not working. Kinda regretting it and I haven't even tried the thing yet. It better really impress me in that first month once I actually get to try it or I'm out.
Also, if AMC really does pull out of this then I'm out as well since my theater is an AMC.

MoviePass has worked great for me in Peoria, though that is fairly useless to you in NYC. However I don't have my card yet I've just been using it with the e ticket theaters.

Got my MoviePass and tried it for the first time. Already made my money back by going to a 7:15 showing of "It."

I'm fairly certain it said I needed my card to get tickets (at least for the theaters I'm going to bother going to). Maybe I wasn't doing it right but given my phone's current state it'd be kinda hard to check. Regardless, given the problems people have had with the app/theaters not fulfilling tickets, and their inability to fulfill demand after a marketing push for which they *knew* there would be demand (isn't that the point?) is not a great sign of things to come. And also the AMC thing.

And also the AMC thing. Very few theaters are e-ticket theaters. We have exactly one here, but even some bigger metro areas don't have one. The theater would have a little red ticket symbol on the right. If you pick a showing at that theater you have the option to just bring the confirmation number and they'll give you the ticket. Regardless, you're right. It didn't seem like they were ready to fulfill all the orders they're getting.

As far as I'm seeing there are no e-tickets listed for me in all of NYC and even in suburbs it lists beyond. So yeah, not an option here.

That is weird. At the same time half of the kids didn't have any development. Really the story could've existed with just Billy, Bev, and Ben.

My only issue with Moviepass so far is that one of the two theaters here has three screens with upgraded audio system that Moviepass confuses as IMAX and doesn't let me order e-tickets for, unless it's during the 4-6pm Twilight discount period.
I guess that's probably more of an issue with the theater charging more for having better surround sound on a few screens, rather than a fault of Moviepass, but it still stinks because that's where they generally stick the newer releases.

i liked the idea of having 3 different directors tackles the new series (tho i didnt think the first choice for IX was anyone who merited it as much as abrams or johnson)
but in the case of only having another 2 years or so to finish it, yeah having abrams come back probably makes the most sense.

Couldn't be happier. Absolutely loved TFA except for the dumb scene with those things getting out of the cage in the ship and chasing them while Han is running from the space gang.
