New one really leaned into alternate history to an annoying degree and it didn't have fun or funny elements like the first two. There was legit only one good scene and otherwise it was just like reliving a history book that some 10 year old rewrote. Just a really big misstep by Vaughn.

we watched The Batman at a friend's house over the weekend. we found the movie to be way too boring for its runtime. but we did enjoy pointing out chicago stuff.
i also watched the velvet underground doc yesterday and thought it was just ok. some of the things they harped on dragged and i was a little surprised at what they breezed over.

Picked this up during the Kino Lorber sale last month. The deadpan humor is awesome.

my local IMAX is doing 4 showings a day of Dr. Strange, and only one of them are in 3D (and it's the ones that are at 4pm or 4:30pm every day which is inconvenient)

It's the first movie in a very long time that I've considered it for at all and the most convenient time for me to see it is a 3d screening. But then I think back to how many movies the 3d actively made worse and it makes me hesitant

I actually enjoyed The Batman for the most part. There were some truly weird and sloppy parts of the story that don't really mesh with the whole "world's greatest detective" vibes they were clearly going for, and you'd expect a guy that calls himself The Riddler to come up with more challenging riddles, but it was kind of great to see more of a beginner level Batman on screen. Pattinson was great as Batman and terrible as Bruce Wayne, though. MVPs were Kravitz and Farrell - probably wouldn't have been as enjoyable without them.

The 3D effects were pretty good. Lots of stuff floating around so it was cool. Also, the musical note fight was really cool in 3D. DO NOT READ THE NEXT SPOILER if you want to be surprised: I also loved the Evil Dead easter egg.

I too just got back from seeing Dr. Strange in IMAX 3D. The first two action sequences alone made it worth the upgrade. Not a spoiler because it's in the trailer... I wish they could have gotten the rights to Shuma-Gorath so they could have actually called him that instead of having to come up with "Gargantos" which isn't even mentioned in the film I'm mildly annoyed that they called the MCU earth-616 instead of earth-199999 but I have not seen any of the tv shows, so I don't know if that's been addressed or not (earth 616 is the main marvel comics universe and there's significant differences between the two

Did not get to see Doctor Strange in 3d but that's ok
I thought similarly to No Way Home in that script really probably needed some more work but they are probably rushing these scripts out. But also like Spider-Man I was highly entertained the whole time so I didn't care that much.
Also this movie is so Sam Raimi and that makes it much more entertaining. The direction of it is perfect and helps so much, I'm not sure it's near as fun with a different director.
I now want Sam Raimi to get more big budget projects like this

Also started watching El Camino after my rewatch of Breaking Bad and it is very distracting how much everyone has aged especially with the movie taking place immediately after the events in the finale or as flashbacks. Jesse Plemons in particular.
