I watched You'll Never Find Me on Shudder last night and didn't love it. It pulls off what it was going for, which is this foreboding vibe of lurking danger at all times, it just wasn't really for me I think. Interested in what others thought of it.
Lisa Frankenstein is great, though. Just a really, really sweet film. Might watch it again tonight.
We enjoyed Lisa Frankenstein.

The new Ghostbusters movie is predictable, basic.

It wasn't as over the top as the original, but it was still a good bad movie. Giving Conor McGregor lines was a mistake though.

I watched the Woodstock 99 documentary from the HBO Music Box series. I didn't know too much about it so I found it genuinely interesting.
Also had no idea the lineup was fucking stacked. Asked my Gen X friends if any of them went but they all said it was way too expensive at that point in their lives.

Moby really sounds like such a fucking nerd in that documentary. Was also insane that the promoters threw Fred Durst under the bus for basically just doing his job.

This was unpredictable and a lot of fun. It was. They really nailed the aesthetic too. nailed the aesthetic, completely dropped the ball with the ending.

Found an AMC gift card that still had some money on it so I'll finally be seeing Dune 2 on a big screen tonight.

Civil War movie was visually cool, morally ambiguous. Jessie plemons was terrifying. More movies should have the music of Suicide tracking it

Enjoyed this quite a bit although I think it would have been better if they had kept the "twist" out of the marketing. There's a whole other (lesser) aspect to the plot they could have used as a hook/misdirect.

Once again, we have a package of tickets for the Tribeca Film Festival. Beginning tomorrow, I can secure seats for screenings before they go on sale to the general public. Like last year, I'm overwhelmed by the choices, especially since I'm not very in tune with what the interesting upcoming releases are. Open to any/all suggestions (except horror genre) if anyone's willing to offer some guidance. munkivelli thebosma et al tribecafilm.com/festival/film

Have heard good things about between the temples. my mom saw daddio and loved it but Im still not convinced its a movie that exists
lake George and shallow tale both sound cool but know nothing about the filmmaker of either/know nothing of potential buzz.
Documentary program in general seems really strong. Would prob roll the dice on the 1st screening of the Martin Scorsese documentary in case hes there
A Desert stars David Yow as the lead could be fun. Prob not too horror-y. Whitest Kids u Know movie prob not your cup of tea if your not already on board with that kind of thing but potentially alot of buzz post-barbarian/that guy dying.
Not helpful of course but all the in competition stuff seems pretty brutal except for maybe the Potrykus movie (prob horror)

In The Summers won the Narrative Grand Jury prize at Sundance...I wouldn't have voted for it, but it was decent. Sacramento and Daddio look promising.

Watched some movies on my plane ride home.
Poor Things was great all around, beautiful film and Emma Stone was awesome. I'm not entirely sure I loved the way they went with the ending though, like thematically it worked but maybe should have been fleshed out more if it was going to work better but the movie was already long, but beyond that it was great and I was pretty entranced by the first bit of it. Also horrible film to watch on a plane! But I was too committed to turn it off, sorry people behind me (me and my fiance thankfully had a row to ourselves on the plane though)
I loved The Iron Claw. I don't know a ton about wrestling and really didn't know the Von Erichs story and had tried to keep it that way until watching and I'm glad I did, found it all really compelling and heartbreaking.
The Marvels sucked lol. It wasn't quite as bad as the most recent Ant-Man, partly because it was actually a decent length and not overly bloated so the pacing wasn't too terrible, but the forced attempts at humor were painful, the action was a CGI mess, the plot wasn't particularly interesting, villain wasn't very good, just bad. There was a set piece/gag involving a planet where everyone sings that made little to no sense and a confident film would have just owned that as stupid as it was, but instead they had two of the characters make self aware marvel film style jokes about it that weren't funny and drove home that it was a cringy gag. Also every one of these MCU films of recent except maybe Guardians 3 has had scripts that needed time in the oven and this is no exception.
Also watched pretty much all of the Fallout series on the plane ride going there and it ruled

Saw The Fall Guy last night. Gosling is great as usual, and the stunts are fun but overall it's meh. Never quite finds the right tone and none of the other actors bring the same level of energy as Gosling.
Also went to see I Saw The TV Glow earlier this week and thought it was excellent. Wasn't completely sold on the director's first film (although I thought it was interesting), but she really delivered on this one. It will probably resonate more with Gen Xers and older Millenials and I fall firmly into the former group.

We watched The Idea of You on Prime last night. Pretty good for a romantic present-day drama. Even the boy band songs weren't terrible.

We started rewatching the Star Wars movies.
Episode 1 is much better than I remember it being. Crazy how little screentime Darth Maul gets, but Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor are both terrific.
Episode 2 is dogshit and probably the worst movie in the whole series. The Anakin/Padme love story is creepy and terribly acted. Last 45 minutes or so were great, though.
Anyway, Revenge of the Sith tonight. I'm guessing that it holds up pretty well.

Anyway, Revenge of the Sith tonight. I'm guessing that it holds up pretty well. It did hold up! The first three movies are such a crazy waste of Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen is a terrible actor, but the story was a solid way to introduce Darth Vader. Also finished up the back half of The Killing of a Sacred Deer last night. Is Barry Keoghan typecast as the creep?

I watched this the other day and loved it. The only other movie he’s in that I’ve seen is The Eternals, so can’t speak to that. He’s pretty creepy, tho.

We saw Fall Guy tonight - I thought it was more predictable than most, but still very fun. I’m a sucker for movies about movies and I particularly enjoyed the clips at the end as well as the clever opening credits. Hannah Waddingham is a badass queen.

We started rewatching the Star Wars movies. This has been fun! My wife had never seen any of the first 3 movies or the most recent trilogy. We're on Return to the Jedi right now. Incredibly jarring to see the scenes where CGI was added late to 4-6 - like, there's an extended music scene in Jabba's hideout that made zero sense to add. Still kind of fun revisiting these movies.
