We started rewatching the Star Wars movies. This has been fun! My wife had never seen any of the first 3 movies or the most recent trilogy. We're on Return to the Jedi right now. Incredibly jarring to see the scenes where CGI was added late to 4-6 - like, there's an extended music scene in Jabba's hideout that made zero sense to add. Still kind of fun revisiting these movies. I had never seen any of them until these past two weeks; started with Episode 4 and watched Episode 5 this weekend. My dad was very into it (therefore I wasn't) but oh boy was I wrong - cannot wait to catch up on the rest. Any preferred (order) way of watching them? I like to go chronological but open to suggestions.

There's this thing called "Machete order" that some people really tout where you watch episodes 1-3 after Episode 5 kind of like an extended flashback to make 6 hit home harder. I see the merits of that, it could work, but if not I'd just watch in release order: 4-5-6-1-2-3-7-8-9 (although I feel bad telling anyone to watch 9) Rogue One is probably a fun watch after the initial trilogy as well. It leads right into Episode 4.

We're going chronologically, but I could see the argument of going by release order. It is kind of neat hearing the Obi Wan and Darth Vader dialogue in 4-6 after watching the first 3 movies.
If you wanted to be incredibly thorough you could mix the Disney Plus releases in with the movies, but that would take like a year to get through.

Here's the full chronological order:
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Episode I) (1999) Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (Episode II) (2002) Star Wars: The Clone Wars (movie, 2008) Star Wars: The Clone Wars (series, 2008) Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi (2022)* Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (Episode III) (2005) Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (2024)* Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021) Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) Andor (2023) Star Wars Rebels (2014) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV) (1977) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V) (1980) Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Episode VI) (1983) The Mandalorian (2019) The Book of Boba Fett (2021) Ahsoka (2023) Star Wars Resistance (2018)** Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Episode VII) (2015) Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode VIII) (2017) Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX) (2019)
That's a lot of content.

How can I stay five years behind the trends then?

I wouldn't skip the Phantom Menace or Revenge of the Sith but Attack of the Clones is pretty rough. Of the Disney projects, I'd watch the first two seasons of Baby Yoda, The Last Jedi, and Andor. And I'd watch the original trilogy obviously too. The Force Awakens is a pleasant if wholly unnecessary re-skin of Episode IV. Episode IX is actively bad.

I've seen most of the movies but think he's mid-Clone Wars series and I am not sitting through that.

idk when Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher stop being in them, but I'm already sad about it
although I am eager to see what all the Pedro Pascal fuss was about over the last couple of years

I've seen most of the movies but think he's mid-Clone Wars series and I am not sitting through that. There is a lot of Clone Wars shows but a large chuck of it is really really good. The last season has some of the best SW content created. Edit: I went and looked it up. Season 7 starts strong, has some okay stuff in the middle, but the last 4 episodes are top notch. Incredible storytelling.

Watched two Gyllenhaal movies for no reason this weekend: Zodiac and Prisoners.
I thought Zodiac was genuinely great and Prisoners was slightly less great.

Watched a few things over the weekend. Bottoms - Ridiculous but pretty funny. I hate that whenever there's two main character friends, it is inevitable that during the course of the film they will argue and split up, and then we're forced to wait until they inevitably reconcile.
American Fiction - Enjoyed it for the most part, though darker than I expected.
I Saw the TV Glow - Pretty interesting, though it moved kind of slow. Didn't recognize Fred Durst as the stepdad.

We saw Babes. It was pretty funny and good overall. I hoped for more hyper-natural dialogue given that Pam Adlon was directing, but nevertheless it seemed like a well-written script. Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau both gave excellent performances.

I enjoyed Challengers, although the front half was better than the back half. They kind of dragged out the end a bit. The soundtrack was top notch, I would love to hear more music from whoever composed it.
