10 club. Cherry Tree. Other things of that sort. Do you pay for them? Would you? Have you paid for them? Are you really a fan of the band if you don't?
I've been thinking about this since the National Metro onsale and figured I'd poll the board about it. Talk about your memberships or lack there-of here.

I’ll pronably end up paying for Cherry Tree within the next several months if that means anything. I just had an increase in income that would allow this

I am well past the point of paying for a fan club. Never have before either.

I checked the "certain band" box, but it's more like I would consider it if the right band offered a worthwhile enough membership that wasn't exorbitant.

i have not. the benefits would have to be extraordinary for me to do so.
my favorite band had a couple singles distributed just to fans. in the last few years, i've found these singles in used bins. so even "exclusive" releases are not exactly exclusive after a while.

I got a Linkin Park fan club card a couple years ago for my birthday but I'm not sure if I have to re-up or if its good for life.

Like if a big-ticket band I really liked (Radiohead) had something like that I probably would. Everyone else? I'd have my doubts

I never paid for a fan club until 10c earlier this year. I rarely have difficulty getting concert tickets I'm happy with, but the last time PJ played MSG, I couldn't get jack squat. When they announced the home show, I noticed a big gap in the schedule between Chicago and Boston, so I speculatively purchased a 10c membership. Obviously, they didn't add any NYC dates, but I expect they'll be back here soon, so I'll keep the $20/year digital membership. Not sure I'd be willing to keep it if I lived elsewhere.

I voted "No, but I have in the past" because I've bought U2.com subscriptions for the sole purpose of basically guaranteeing GA tickets for the arena shows. Obviously that hasn't been as hard lately, but it used to be tougher.
I was also a 10 Club member for the same reason, but I'll admit the perks of the 10 Club have always enticed me.

20 years ago i joined 10club (was it $10 back then?) and kept it for a few years. it got me front row 98 and 7th row 2000, so it paid for itself pretty well.
and i had a u2.com one too and that got me some g.a. presale back in 2001. i think that one may have been free?

I'd pay $10 to get further away from Pearl Jam

I think I joined 10 Club in the first year or two it was around, but never bothered to renew. No interest in doing this for anyone else since then. I did think about it with the National, but the price was not worth it.

I subscribed to the Third Man Records vault for when the Bonnaroo performance was the next release.

I can't really think of any current bands / clubs that would warrant it for me, Cherry Tree comes the closest, but eh.

I am technically still a member of 10c, but obviously after my initial experience I will not be renewing.
I also used to be a member of Aero Force One in the mid 90s. It got me 5th row tickets to see them on the 9 Lives tour, which was pretty fun for teenage me.

I think I joined 10 Club in the first year or two it was around, but never bothered to renew. This, but I reupped for a year or two when I got out of school and was seeing them a lot, and again this year to get tickets. I don't think I ever got any real benefit out of it other than the GA tickets for this year's shows, and I usually did better just using other 10c members' spares (or one time in Columbus, Mike McCready's friends and family seats 😎) I've been a member of the MMJ Roll Call in the past because you could get early entry for GA shows (when they didn't fuck it up) so that was worth it. But I care a lot less about that now that their superfans are awful and you can just borrow someone's credentials anyway.

i was curious about "i give bands i like enough money as is", so i did a quick look. as best i can tell, the most i've spent on tickets to see one band (not including at festivals) is in the mid-$400s. i could probably tack on like $100+ in buying their albums. that seems pretty reasonable to me.

I'll sign up for fan clubs if it gives me better access to tickets, but it's not something I renew otherwise. I've done it with U2 and PJ in the past. I briefly signed up for Third Man because I wanted some of the White Stripes vinyls they had announced, but that was pretty brief.

My real answer is "I haven't yet, but I could possibly see myself doing it in the future," so I selected "certain bands." Cherry Tree seems like the one that would've done it, but I'm already seeing the National 6 times in less than 12 months without it, so I never bothered.
