Besides Pitchfork.
What music blogs do you like? Podcasts? How do you discover new artists, albums, or songs?

A pretty good mix of work, here, and Spotify to be honest. Not really their Discover Weekly playlists, but just tabbing through related artists and really making an effort to explore - mostly outside the "indie / rock" realm though.
Been into a lot of hard-bop jazz lately and it's been invaluable to click through various influences / similar artists and expand my horizons.

I use that, the Board, SiriusXM, TimA. I used to use Sounds Better with Reverb for shoegaze/psych rock but they don't appear to be keeping up with new stuff anymore. That site was so great, I am really bummed about it falling apart.

*deep breath* here goes Every week, I update my New Songs playlist ( ) daily with tracks that I find from Stereogum, P4K, NPR, etc. but I also follow certain labels on Facebook - 4AD, Sub Pop, Castle, Merge, Trouble in Mind, etc. as they highlight newly signed acts. The playlist gets updated and I remove songs that I don't care for or move some to my Favorites playlist. Every once in awhile, I'll check out Spin's "5 Artists You Need to Listen To" but they rarely highlight anything worthwhile. If I'm desperate I check out Sputnik's list of new releases: www.sputnikmusic.com/newreleases.php - I like the format, and the ability to filter down to just a certain genre, but the likliness of it being tagged correctly is pretty low, and a majority of the "highest rated" is usually shitrock or screamo metal. Sputnik's kind of vapid so I don't frequent there much or engage in any type of actual conversation. And of course, Spotify's related artists which can sometimes become a rabbit hole. Lastly, the board. I hear about a lot of upcoming projects from folks like Avb who seems to have his finger pretty close to the pulse of new music. I'll echo Wyoming on Sounds Better with Reverb. Used to be awesome. But not a single update this year so far so I'm guessing he's given up on it, which is a shame.

i suppose for a more serious answer: - The Lollaboard and Pitchfork for indie, pop, r&b, hip hop
- theprp, blabbermouth, metalsucks, decibel, and record label social media (relapse, profound lore, etc) for metal, punk, rawk
- occasionally stereogum or even npr for just something different. some surprising good finds.
- and of course bandcamp cause most "new" bands i find start there and are always worth investing in.

I've been using Brooklyn Vegan a lot more recently. Initially just used it as a reference for NYC shows before my trip last month, but it's turned into a great resource for tours, festivals and new album announcements.

The old Brooklyn Vegan was one of my favorite sites online before the redesign. It had fallen off pretty hard even before the redesign, but once the commenting function changed it was ruined for me. Peak BV between 2006 and 2012ish was always a must read.

Wasn't sure if there's a suggest new music thread so I'd figure I'd just post this in here.
Need some summer songs to add to this playlist:

Lately I've been working backwards by just checking out bands that are playing Schuba's/Lincoln Hall type venues.
This put an end to my streak of getting into a band and then finding out that they just played Chicago last month.

Aside from the Lollaboard, I get most of my new music from my Sirius subscription. I cycle between several channels although I probably spend most of my time on XMU and The Spectrum. If you spend a decent amount of time in a car every day I think it's a great value, and they offer me free tickets to shows semi regularly.

I'm not saying they don't provide a good service, but cancelling/not extending my free trial of Sirius XM was one of the more frustrating things I've had to do. They still send me letters.

Not sure if this makes any difference, but they are the easiest company ever to negotiate with. Every year when it's time for me to renew I call them and immediately ask to speak to customer retention, as soon as I tell them I want to cancel they give the discounted rate (I think about $90 for the year). There is never any back and forth or haggling.

They're probably friendlier when you do want to maintain your service in someway. I listen to my phone 99.3% of the time in my car, so paying for radio is just something I don't need at all.

We had a SiriusXM trial when we bought our vehicle from Carmax two years ago, but never signed up for a subscription. On the rare occasions when I tune in, all the channels still work. I'm convinced there's a phantom charge on some random credit card somewhere, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

You need to tell them what music you like online and they will regularly send you offers. The most popular ones go really quickly though.
