The Vaccines - Combat Sports I was very pleased with this when it came out. It might be as good as their first album.

Also Tweet several of my favorites for the year are on your list. If the name of the game was 2 opposite albums that I recommend it's for sure Neko Case and JPEGMAFIA. The Neko album is a bit of a departure for her while remaining true to her sound. Last Lion of Albion is probably in my top 10 tracks for the year thus far. A lot of longer tracks, some guests too. JPEGMAFIA has enough interesting/experimental stuff while not completely straying from the genre into total noise territory. A word of warning, if you're driving while you listen to it you might end up driving way fucking faster than you mean to.

Ovlov: TRU - This is a 90s throwback, very Dinosaur Jr./Built to Spill feel. Illuminati Hotties: Kiss Yr Frenemies - I know a lot of people really dug this one. It's a good slice of indie noisey pop. Fun record. Denzel Curry: TA1300 - Soundcloud rap, but kids got skills. Ganser: Odd Talk - post-punk, very Sonic Youth influenced. Tanukichan: Sundays - shoegaze/dream pop project. A bit more varied than other new bands in the genre. Tim Rutili/Craig Ross: 10 Seconds to Collapse - Basically a Califone album, which means its pretty good. Tropical Fuck Storm: A Laughing Death in Meatspace - Name aside, it's kind of a post-punky in the realm of Iceage but not Preoc. Sorry to Bother You Soundtrack: I dunno, it's just a fun listen. Hermit and the Recluse: Orpheus vs. the Sirens - this is the latest project from Ka (the rapper). If you dug any of his other work, you're sure to at least enjoy this moderately.

I'm excited to see Gang of Youths at Grandoozy. Definitely slept on that one in 2017.
I like this thread.

i'll offer up some of my metal findings for the year. i havent done my huge Bandcamp binge yet so im sure im missing some gems in there.
Watain - Trident Wolf Eclipse really great left turn to experimental brutality after some boring black metal albums. very noisy and loud but still has solid riffs.
Mammoth Grinder - Cosmic Crypt really fun grind/sludge record. very abrasive but still melodic.
Tribulation - Down Below fab euro-vampires doing very pretty and clean black metal riffs with rough vocals but not screaming. like if Agalloch were doing Bauhaus.
Portal - Ion pretty much straight up noise. kinda death metal but it's purposely produced to kinda mute the riffs.
Atlas Moth - Coma Noir straight heavy riffing throughout. great big hooky choruses.
Old Tower - Stellary Wisdom like if 8 bit NES music was written for the latest Lars Von Trier film
Black Bible Tyrant - Regret Beyond Death very very angry blackened sludge with a kinda atmospheric tinge
Insect Ark - Marrow Hymns instrumental riffing from a female duo
Harakiri for the Sky - Arson hardcore and crust punk anthemic stuff
Sumac & Keiji Haino – American Dollar Bill – Keep Facing Sideways, You’re Too Hideous to Look at Face On whack-ass experimental avant garde loud and silly
Panopticon – The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness blackened-folk metal for when you're [] in the woods
Wiegedood - De doden hebben het goed III Oathbreaker side project. much angrier and louder
The Body – I Have Fought Against It, But I Can’t Any Longer more ambient and electronic than the last one. some really great additional female vocals
Fotocrime – Principle of Pain new wave revival stuff from the dude from Coliseum
Zeal & Ardor – Stranger Fruit crossover between black metal and "soul" music. last album had some electronic bits but this one seems to lack those
Gnaw Their Tongues – Genocidal Majesty just fucking mindnumbing noise
Orange Goblin – The Wolf Bites Back good comeback after a pretty uninteresting album a few years ago. fun hooks and catchier choruses
Skeletonwitch – Devouring Radiant Light definitely more kvelertak-y on this one. Maiden-esque guitar work but with wolvhammer dude on vocals
The Lion’s Daughter – Future Cult electronic-heavy sludge outfit from stl
Jungle Rot – Jungle Rot probably the best death metal album in a while

I have memory of listening to that Zeal and Ardor album but it's not on my spreadsheet which leads me to believe I didn't listen to it
