Remember when they had to remove "NYC Cops" from the US version of Is This It? after it came out on 9/11? i think the version with "take it or leave it" is actually the rarer one now. most record shops anticipated big sales and ordered a ton of copies. so they were still selling the "nyc cops" record for weeks. i bought it two weeks later (before a sigur ros show across the street) and my version has "nyc cops." and then the next pressing went back to "nyc cops" anyway.

these two albums are 17 years old today: both of these played a significant role in developing my tastes to where they are today. Loved that Beulah album. I don't think I ever got to see them live unfortunately.

Loved that Beulah album. I don't think I ever got to see them live unfortunately. i saw them in philly on the last tour. they were ok. the two things i remember most from the show are that 1) it was the night after the steve bartman game and i watched game 7 between bands at the bar across the street; 2) the fire alarm went off toward the end of the set but nobody left, so the staff tried to shuffle people out but the band kept playing so nobody wanted to leave.

i think this is one of the more underrated chicago bands of the 2000s. this album is 11 years old today: i don't think many people on this board argue this being a pretty good album. it is 17 years old today:

I loved Office and that album. I saw a bill at the Metro in probably 2008(?) that was Office, 1900s, Mannequin Men, and somebody else. Very good show.

That album broke me through to that entire genre / sound. I sought out bands like Explosions in the Sky, Stars of the Lid, and This Will Destroy You after I found that.
For a long time, those two hands were immediately what came to mind when someone brought them up...until I started falling asleep to - "THE CAR IS ON FIRE, AND THERE'S NO DRIVER AT THE WHEEL"
