"Nothing on the inside, nothing on the outside: The Bojack Horseman thread" was too long of a title so just imagine how nice that would have been.
Is there enough interest in this thread for it to exist? I anticipate wanting to discuss this season when it rolls around in a few days but I don't want to clog up the TV thread with it, plus I figured we can talk spoilers more easily in this thread. Due to the "binge-able" nature of the show, be sure to spoiler tag and indicate which episode the spoiler is from.
Anyways, I just finished my re-watch and it was pretty devastating as anticipated. I avoided getting into this show for years because I thought I wouldn't like it but late last year got really into it. Love how good it hurts.

Here’s the trailer. I’d recommend avoiding most reviews. The embargo was lifted this week and a lot of spoiler talk is floating around.

I've never seen this show but I just got a targeted ad for its coffee table art book (maybe because I clicked on this thread?) and it's called "The Art Before The Horse" which gave me a laugh this morning.

I just started rewatching, and I forgot how much of a tonal shift there is in both Bojack and show universe at large after the first six or so episodes.

I just started rewatching, and I forgot how much of a tonal shift there is in both Bojack and show universe at large after the first six or so episodes. Yeah they kinda start giving a big middle finger to your emotions in there. It's like they really decided what kind of show they were going to be from there on out. The original concept was a lot goofier and less depressing apparently but the creators were interested in making it feel very real and blur the comedy/drama lines. It's impressive how well it works because it goes so poorly for some shows

You can definitely tell by the original flashbacks to Bojack's family. It's much more broad, and "It's hilarious how shitty Bojack's family was" as opposed to looking at the actual traumatic effects of growing up there that the later seasons tackle.

Yeah, really until season 4 it was just HILARIOUS FLASHBACKS of Bojack getting yelled at as a kid and then it turned into unhappy city

Apparently RBW said in a reddit AMA that english is a language that some bears have to learn. Others just speak bear. He said it could be the case for any of the animals it just happens to be this one that is so notable.

If you have subtitles on the very first thing you see in S5 is the subtitle *techno music plays* and it is 'Los Ageless,' indie music is dead.

Season 5 Episode 6 spoilers below: This episode will be talked about for a very long time. Not sure how it will go over with a lot of people but the monologue aspect worked so well for this. Genuinely amazed. Really enjoying the season thusfar, though Todd's antics have been getting less and less interesting each season.

Well I finished this season altogether too quickly. Very spolier-y thoughts below. I loved this season, but if it wasn't already impossible to cheer for Bojack, it absolutely is now.
I'm impressed with the writers for tackling such a real life issue as the opioid crisis as well. I'm interested to see if Bojack actually gets "better" or if he's really able to. I'm excited for some of you to finish this season so I can talk about it with someone lol

I'm still catching up, but Time's Arrow is still amazing, and Fish out of Water is still overrated.

I appreciated Fish out of Water so much more the second time around but I imagine it could be frustrating and annoying for a lot of people haha.

It's...I recognize that it was a chance for the animators, musicians, sound designers et al. to stretch their legs in a way the show doesn't always allow, and to pay homage to some classics, but that doesn't make it a great episode of this show.
I actually enjoyed it much more right when I watched it for the first time, but it lost luster for me on reflection.
Though, the final note that Bojack does write is great.

I’ll comment more on this later when you finish the season but I argue that one of the new episodes is the best thing they’ve done artistically in this show and it fits well. Everyone out there is talking about another episode, which was good, but nothing like this

RE: Time's Arrow
Why are the faces of servants scribbled out? Is it because Beatrice thinks less of them than the faceless people at the debutante ball?

RE: Time's Arrow Why are the faces of servants scribbled out? Is it because Beatrice thinks less of them than the faceless people at the debutante ball? Pretty sure it's her memory fading. There are a lot of other visual references to that throughout. When she runs out of the building at the ball you can see between shots that some of the letters on the building flip around.

Finished the season tonight and goddamn This is easily the best show Netflix has produced What did you think of episode 11? I feel like it was their most technically impressive episode and it was my favorite to watch. Also felt like it wasn't going for the same kind of emotional gut punch as every other season's episode 11.

I forget that it always takes until about episode 6 of each season to really start connecting, and I watched 6-10 last night.
Buh.
