Finished watching season 5. Wow, Best Netflix show indeed. I guess my fave was the Amelia Earhart Story followed by The Dog Days are Over, episode 6 wasn't bad at all, it just made me feel sad and depressed

Feels kinda weird that we don't have a release date for the next season. I guess Raphael Bob-Waksberg has said that they aren't done with the season yet but he's hoping that it'll be done in time for it to be out before the end of the year. I wonder if they had a harder time finding a direction for this season. Seems like the show is working towards a natural end though. I wouldn't be surprised if 6 is the last season.
Anyways I'm re-watching through this now and it's still really fucking depressing.

Full discolsure: I loved the first 2 seasons, but by season 3 I had to stop at the end because it was getting "too personal" for lack of a better phrase. I've read the 4th season but haven't watched it. Kinda forgot there was a season 5
Anyway, I'll have 3 McDoubles and a large fry

I have a lot of friends who have said the show does uhh not improve their depression at all. I get it.

It's not even a mental health thing generally (although, duh, that's there too). It's that it's so smartly written and Will Arnett deserves a trophy or two, but you contrast the words with what you're watching animal-wise and you "get to know what the show is about" and then you get depressed as hell

Next season airs in two parts, one of which drops Oct 25, the other of which drops January 31. This will be the final season.

Well fuck I don't want to wait till January for these final episodes. First half of the season is great. Episode 7 in particular was really wonderful but I enjoyed them all.

Watched all of the final part of season 6 yesterday and this show is easily up there with my all time favorites. I'm going to miss it. So many poignant moments in those last two episodes

I just finished it this afternoon. I’m glad it was good from start to finish, I don’t think there are tons of episodes that are misfires.

I don't know why I expected this show ending to leave me anything other than unmoored.
Really wish they had given the creators the extra season they wanted.

I don't know why I expected this show ending to leave me anything other than unmoored. Really wish they had given the creators the extra season they wanted. Yeah I would definitely agree. I think adding some extra episodes to their usual season length was nice and definitely helped, but I would have really loved Gina's story to be told beyond a brief scene in the first half of the season. The S5 episode where Bojack chokes her is maybe one of the most horrific moments of the show and I really wish they had utilized it better this season, especially because he's actually dealing with consequences this go around. Second to last episode was one of the best they've ever made, I was really impressed with it. Think of it this way though, if they had given them a whole new season, maybe they would have done a sequel to Fish Out of Water, your favorite episode.

they would have done a sequel to Fish Out of Water, your favorite episode. This is legally slander.

No no no, I remember sitting in wretched's kitchen, enjoying a nice cup of coffee with you when out of nowhere you said "Fish Out of Water was a format better suited for a whole season, and I hope they consider returning to the concept in a meaningful capacity before the show ends. When I rewatch the show, I don't skip this episode, I watch it twice to make sure I processed it all" Wild breakfast conversation but I nodded in agreement because you seemed passionate.

I'm fascinated by this show because unlike a lot of "comedies" that plainly don't care about jokes and people just like because they talk about racism or depression, Bojack packs in a ton jokes. But for the last several seasons most of them are patently not funny and no one really cares.

Right after watching the final episode, I was left with a void sensation in the pit of my stomach. I'm truly going to miss this show...

I was home sick yesterday and binged the rest of the final season. The ending was fine. That reporter in the wedding dress (who was a pig - a subtle jab at the media?) got on my nerves.
