I got a shirt like that as a free givewaway at a Diplo concert in 2008 but its been wash and dryed so many times that not only does it no longer work as a dress length shirt but my belly is exposed under it like a 70s tank top.

You can probably buy this exact thing at the Margaritaville Gift Shop for $59.99

Any drink that's not a jello shot or made with Mountain Dew seems a bit highbrow for these purposes

Things I learned from the album Down to Earth:
- Jimmy is a big believer in supply-side Jesus (not cool) - We get into the lore that he comes from a long line of sailors which sets us up for my current favorite Buffett song, Son of a Sailor (very cool) - Folk hero Captain America can cure rabies (also very cool) - It seems like his original goal was to be a Capitalist Jim Croce (which is more interesting than cool)
That's all I've got on this one but I'm genuinely enjoying this and excited to keep listening through these.

Surprised that there was only one song about boats in this album "The Captain and the Kid".
"The Christian" and "Truckstop Salvation" were actually good songs. For some reason I got kind of a Paul Simon vibe from them? Easily the highlights. Because of this, I could easily see the type of people who attend a Jimmy Buffet show booing if he ever played anything from this album.
I laughed out loud at "Ellis Dee" and "Captain America". I guess the Mr. Clean comparisons to Captain America make sense given that he's the most sterile character in the history of Marvel.
Dude can sing though huh?
If I found this album in the bargain bin record shopping for $4 or less I would probably buy it.
Current rankings:
1. Down to Earth

"The Christian"
Not quite Prine or anything like that but definitely a pointed sentiment to open the album with. Not really punching up just sort of punching which is kind of a interesting look at the change from the 60s to 70s. Some interesting playing an accompaniment for a pretty straight forward composition. The church organs popping in and out give it a more abstract doors-y religious vibe despite its straightforward late 60s folk progresion
"Ellis Dee"
Very subtle song. I wonder if it is about drugs? This sounds like a Walk Hard parody of early 70s faux-protest folk Nashville but its still pleasant as heck.
"The Missionary"
You see, he thought he was going to be the missionary, but than he realized the western man was the lost man not the one who should be preaching gospel. Zzzzzzzzzz
"Down To Earth"
This is a great little peak at future Buffett while still more in the vein of Nashville songwriter. Nothing too deep but great driving momentum and a nice little sentiment thats introspective but not cloyingly so (seems to be a strength he'll put to good use later)
"The Captain and The Kid"
Something about his casual delivery and ear for complicated and busy instrumentation that still sounds casual and comfortable makes a song that could be a little over sacchrine come off genuine enough to be touching.
"Captain America
This is nice. Is this about Merle? Not alot written about Nashville-era Buffett.
"Ain't He A Genius"
Comes and goes in a couple minutes and doesn't leave a big impression one way or the other.
"Turnabout"
I love the happy ending on this song after the nicely sewn sadness into the purposely mundane. I doubt he plays this live but I bet a big full band version of this track would slap live.
"There's Nothing Soft About Hard Times"
This guy should try finding....his beach!!!!!!!! This doesn't do much for me. feels more like a sketch of a song than a completed one, but like everything else, there is a real natural chemistry within his band that drives it home.
"I Can't Be Your Hero Today"
Damn this is Buffett in SAVAGE mode. This is a nice tune but is quite mean for the composition. A nice contradiction and a solid enough tune.
"Truckstop Salvation"
This tune is an out and out banger. Got alot of elements of the upsides of this album but goes straight at being an epic vs. the just touching on elements. Love the "free" sound effect followed by the quiet noodling and basic drumbeat breakdown. Probably the out and out highlight of the album

Final thoughts: Can see why this has been mostly forgotten by fans and was long out of print, but theres definitely the seeds of something here. The band is significantly better than parallel acts of the time that had this little impact on arrival.
Highlights: "The Christian" "Captain and the Kid" "Turnabout" "Truckstop Salvation"
Ranking: 1. Down To Earth

The only time he has played "Truckstop Salvation" live according to Setlist.fm is while doing a stump the band in 1997 at Alpine Valley and they couldn't do it which is a bummer.
